smugpug Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 I've pretty much made up my mind that I don't want to continue with my program, but I'm wondering if withdrawing will affect future applications. I'm interested in applying for an MFA at some point, but can I just pretend this semester didn't happen? Should I even mention it in my proposal? Any thoughts/ past experiences with withdrawing would be greatly appreciated!

I don't think it would affect you if you apply for a program that is in a completely different field than the one you're currently in. Try to avoid applying to the same school or the ones you've applied already. I mean, you could still apply them but then you would probably have to explain why you had to withdraw in your SOP.
talkinghead Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 I remember it being obligatory to upload all academic transcripts to each application. That includes schools you attended for even just one semester. I believe Quantum has it right; it would probably hurt your chances to apply to the same field again, especially if you are aiming to study in a similar area. If you mention the switch is due to personal or social reasons, I would guess that adcoms would be wary. Why take up a risky bet when there is already a large pool of qualified candidates?
