Some Inside Info About MCC in NYU?

Recommended Posts

I am currently thinking to apply to the MA prgram of MCC in NYU. But I am wondering what the courses and people are like there. Would the program be very theoratical, or professional-oriented, or else? Considering that my own interest of field lies on media studies, like new media, media convergence, etc, and also commercial communication, would this program be to theoratical for me? Also I heard that it is quite expensive to live in dorms in NYU, if true, anyone knows any ways to deal with the accomodations?

Thanks for anyone who answers.

I just finished my first term with MCC at NYU.  I'm pretty happy with the program--it is very theoretical, I wouldn't recommend it for people looking for professional media industry prep.  You can PM me if you have more questions.

Thank you for your reply!!  I've been waiting for a reply for too long! :) What's your field of study then?

Actually I am not afraid of being theoratical, I  think I would prefer something that involve both serious academic research and practical topics, you know. I once did a small research on selective exposure, a concept that hypothesizes that people's previous experience would affect their media choice. That's the kind of thing I want, which I think is very interesting:)

Do you know if the MCC in NYU has any faculty on the direction of media studies or my field of interest, like converging media or new media studies? I went through the website of MCC and seemingly found little information about that.

Is it true they only accept 6 people? I think I read something about this in one of the other threads on this board.

Don't scare me, man...But I read on their website which says that they have a class capacity of 140 students? Am I looking at the wrong thing?...
