I have applied to Stanford E-IPER (Emmett Interdisciplinary Program in Environment and Resources program). Has anyone else applied to or heard from them? Post your stats!

I applied to E-IPER and am trying not to think about it, as I'm pretty convinved I won't get in. Sounds like interview invites don't go out until mid-Jan though?

My research interests are in international marine conservation ecology/policy. I have a decent background, but they only take 6 PhD students per year. Yeesh. Guess we'll find out soon in any case.

Well I hope you hear something soon. It's still very, very early. They are getting back to work this week at the soonest.

I'm interested in renewable energy siting and energy policy, along with broad interests in climate change communication and public perceptions. M.S. and B.S. in environmental studies, 3 years of environmental/energy professional work in research.

Yes, looks like they took 6 incomings last year.

Where else did you apply, if you don't mind me asking? How would you rate them against Yale FES, Duke, UC-Bren, etc. I'm having trouble with this since E-IPER is relatively new program-wise.

I'd appreciate any insight either of you could provide if/how you reached out to E-IPER faculty when applying, current students, have visited. etc. I imagine they do some kind of interviewing at some point also.

I think E-IPER tends to fly a bit under the radar, given that their only Masters program is a joint with Stanford's professional schools. So they don't have the same huge, visible MEM cohorts as Duke/Bren/Yale/UMich. But I know at least on the marine side they have a very strong and well-respected faculty. I applied to Duke and Bren as well and a bunch of other programs with strong marine faculty.

I contacted a few different professors at Stanford, but they were pretty blase about the whole communication thing. It seems like this is less of an emphasis than with most of the other programs I applied to, I think they even say on the website somewhere that professors are busy and will probably ignore you until the interview weekend, which is 2/7 this year I think. Invites for that go out sometime in the next week or two, if last year's results are anything to go by.

I was a student in another (professional) program at Stanford and the faculty in E-IPER do tend to stay pretty busy with their various projects.  Stanford puts a pretty strong emphasis on interdisciplinary work and of course any faculty that chose to affiliate with an interdisciplinary PhD tend to be involved with many other departments/research.  The faculty I've met in the program are great, great people, so trust me, their ignoring you is just a reflection of their being SO busy.

Their interdisciplinary work is what interested me. I am interested to work on climate change and impacts on agriculture. I have BS and MS in crop science and some experience working in biodiversity conservation projects. Let's see how the review goes. Fingers crossed.

POIs at UBC replied and asked me to send my resume to them and to explain my thesis interests in the reply. Hopefully that is a good sign  :)

Anybody want to claim the interview notice that got posted to the results board? (And congrats to whoever it was!)

Applied to E-IPER as well. The wait is agonizing. If the results were (accurate and) anything of a guide, then it means that, if we don't get an email or a call today, we are probably not in... Jan 17 seemed to be the notification date for 2012 and someone claimed to have been offered the interview (2013) via phone. Since only 6-10 are invited to interview, the notifications should be done within a day or two... Deduction!!!  :(

Hi all,

I applied to E-IPER as well and have yet to hear anything. I saw that someone posted that they were called for an interview... good for them, but sad for me. I thought interviews occur on Feb 6-7? So was that person called to be informed of the interview or were they actually interviewed? I am an eternal optimist, so I am still holding out hope for myself and for all of you - but mostly for myself..
