  1. Sorry to rehash a conversation already begun a few times, but is anyone else still hanging out in U.Chicago purgatory? I emailed the division and got their standard "all applications are under review" email. Apologies for my bringing this up again - this is literally the last school I'm waiting to hear from, so it'd be nice to know what was going on with my app...
  2. Has anyone just heard nada out of Chicago? I wasn't contacted re: an interview, haven't seen an acceptance or rejection on the website, etc. Is this a likely deferral to the MAPSS program?
  3. Anybody want to claim the interview notice that got posted to the results board? (And congrats to whoever it was!)
  4. Look here: http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i1040ez.pdf (p. 31) - vaguely complicated table, but if you're going to grad school, quite certain you can figure it out. :-)
  5. Anyone have any idea what admittance rates are vs. enrollment figures? That is, even among top programs, students are frequently admitted to multiple schools and obviously can't attend them all. So when an entering class is five students, how many did the program likely admit to start? I know some of this is handled via waiting lists, whereby individuals not admitted initially are admitted later, so the program doesn't risk oversubscribing, but at the same time, it makes a big difference to think "5 enrolled of 142 applicants" vs "10 admitted of 142 applicants." (These are seriously the marginalia I'm using to comfort myself through waiting right now). I know some of it will depend on the competitiveness of the program, but just not really sure how to interpret the numbers.
  6. Is anyone else finding themselves jealous/resentful that certain fields find out way before others? I understand it's frequently due to the need to interview, but nonetheless - how hard is it to just make a decision and put us out of our misery?
  7. I was a student in another (professional) program at Stanford and the faculty in E-IPER do tend to stay pretty busy with their various projects. Stanford puts a pretty strong emphasis on interdisciplinary work and of course any faculty that chose to affiliate with an interdisciplinary PhD tend to be involved with many other departments/research. The faculty I've met in the program are great, great people, so trust me, their ignoring you is just a reflection of their being SO busy.

Just a note of clarification - EV is a huuuuuuuge area. It's not a building. There are seven or eight high and mid-rises, four studio buildings, a bunch of bunaglows, and some other assorted housing. It's impossible to talk about it feeling like a dorm, since that entirely depends on what building you're talking about. I live in one of the Studio Buildings and it doesn't read as a dorm to me. Very much just an apartment building. Check out the housing website, as it's got pics for most of the styles of buildings.
  9. For those of you waiting for Stanford, I emailed the grad coordinator (trying to get a definite yes or no on whether decisions have been delivered; though my prof source said they had, as you all know, miscommunication is rife in department stuff) and got this response "I'm afraid decisions have not been handed out just yet. As indicated in my message back in December, decisions go out in early March or before. Your patience is greatly appreciated." So, though I hate lingering in limbo, it looks like there is still hope. Assuming I'm not misinterpreting this again. Ugh.
  10. It's certainly possible. The way it was phrased was "notified last week." And I know it's traditional at Stanford for the profs to email the new students. I certainly hope there is some other explanation. Believe me.
  11. Take this all with a grain of salt, but I just spoke with a professor who is in the History Dept. at Stanford (and has a joint appointment in the Law School, thus my contact) and was informed that all decisions were sent out last week. Maybe there was miscommunication and it was simply that the decisions were made last week, we'll see. But it looks like if you haven't been admitted yet, it's a WL or deny. (And I'm in the same boat, so no gloating. Kind of disappointed.)
  12. Fair enough. Any idea of whether the numbers are about the same as normal or if you guys are down this year?
  13. Thanks hazelmoor. Just nice to know my insane email checking is at least for some cause.
  14. Any word from Stanford yet? I saw the one waitlist on the board, but it's unclear if anyone has heard an affirmative yes or no. I'm in the law school right now with a PhD app pending and was just wondering whether anyone knew anything. Thanks guys!
