rbaobao Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 I got an email today from a professor of University of Toronto. He wants to talk to me about my application to CS program. Does it mean that I am half way to the program? But I did not get invited to the visit day since my application was just completed in this week. I heard, from the people who have been invited to the visit day, that the decisions will be made in the next week . I really want to go to UofToronto. I hope it is a good start.
SingaporeGuy Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 and do you mean that you just submitted your application this week?!
michigantrumpet Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 It was prolly a missing transcript or something... he said completed not submitted.

SingaporeGuy Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 i see. good luck for your interview! i applied to toronto too. when is your interview?
rbaobao Posted March 7, 2009 Author Posted March 7, 2009 Monday How can I prepare for it? I do not have any experience of this kind.
MaximKat Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 1. be ready to talk about your research experience 2. read about his research 3. prepare questions 4. don't worry
MaximKat Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 hmm... can't edit my post 1 and half. be ready to talk about your interests in research
bernard Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 Hey rbaobao! Fellow Canadian student here. SFU has a strong CS department, so I think you chance at U of T is good. Just relax during the interview. Being a coauthor, you should be ready to tell them what your roles in the project were. You don't have to know the interviewer's research, just a general idea is fine. Good luck! Let us know if you get in.
rbaobao Posted March 10, 2009 Author Posted March 10, 2009 I think it was alright. He just asked me about why I want to do graduate school, my previous research project, and any idea about future research projects. Then, I ask some questions. That is it. He said decisions will be made in next week or so.
MaximKat Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 He said decisions will be made in next week or so. Take this with a certain amount of doubt I've had an interview with XXX univ 12 days ago and they said that results will be in a week, one and half week at most. A prof from YYY univ said that results will be really-really soon more than a week ago as well. Guess what? I haven't heard a word from them since Btw, I'm almost ready to write a letter and ask about my status. To whom do you think should I write? Admission coordinator or the prof I have spoken to? In XXX this prof was interviewing me to find about fit for his group, in YYY it was just a short general interview which made me feel like I'm almost in and they just want to hear me in person and check my overall adequacy
rbaobao Posted March 11, 2009 Author Posted March 11, 2009 I think I would write to the profs in XXX and YYY since you have talked to the profs instead of the Admission coordinator.
