Too much whining. If they say March, MIT has a right until march to decide. If they say March, MIT has a right until march to decide.

The application FAQ said results come out "starting mid February", and the actual application says to check for results in March.

If you lost so much respect for MIT, please feel free to withdraw your application so that the ones of us who do still have respect for them can attend.

dont be so desperate. It is they who said a fixed date and time and delaying it. Everybody paid application fee and have right to criticize.

I'm not the one who's being desperate haha, it's the ones on here who are saying "oh my god, how can MIT do such a thing?" when their application (the one you log onto to submit your information) has ALWAYS said:

"You can log into this web site in early March to see our admissions decision"

https://apply.eecs.mit.edu/

People here are whining about not getting special treatment and learning earlier than they're supposed to. So no, they don't have the right to criticize, not until it's March.

the person responsible, said on telephone a certain date and it is like changing for last two weeks. The march is a safe date. That doesn't mean the results are supposed to be then. What are we looking for? A guide book for dummies?

you are desperate because you want people to withdraw their application and think it might get you in.

No, that doesn't make me desperate, that makes me rude. I was telling him to shut up, basically. If you're such a big shot and serious about your impression of MIT being damaged, then back up your words.

I did not talk to the lady on the phone, so I cannot speak exactly to why the delay is here. But here's what I think: I have a hard time believing that she guaranteed that results would be posted by Friday. Departments like these are often very careful about what they say. She probably said something like "We expect the results to be posted by Friday."

Guess what? Sometimes life doesn't go as planned, and a week delay here or there really means nothing in the long run.

I'm just disappointed by all this moaning by supposed adults about a few days notice late (which may not even be that late).

Also, who is this lady on the phone whose word you keep taking as gospel? She might just be a secretary that's taking the rules down from the top.

Anybody who's worked in a company knows that what one side of the company says might not be 100% in line with what another said. I used to have a part-time job fixing computers, and the parts repair guys would give one time estimate while the front desk guys would give another one, simply because the company's big and the chain of flow is complex.

I can understand why the admissions processing of thousands of qualified candidates at a world-class research institution might be a little complex

well then buddy, like the department have commitments,he too would have some commitments and circumstances. Let us be patient. Already some spammers have started their work of trolling us. Saying there were only rejections are in store and admission letters are already sent out.

Let us wait for good news or application status, whatever

I agree with you 100%! Waiting sucks for all of us, but there's nothing anybody can do about that.

I believe a little more respect would be nicer. We are all trying to express ideas here. I am not sure how appropriate it is for "supposed adults" to "tell someone to shut up".

Well my point was to tell complainers to shut up in a veiled way, but the subtlety was lost on some hehe.

I apologize if I've turned the mood hostile.

We are all going through a difficult stage.

Let us hope for the best...

Good luck to everyone.

Thank you guys for all the follow-up with the admissions office! Very thoughtful of you :)

That's the part that is driving me crazy. I was all happy waiting it out, and then dates started getting posted and suddenly my expectation curve turns into a sawtooth wave. Have to say I was much happier not having any idea what was going on then having to keep revising it!

Definitely know what you mean. I guess that's why the phrase "Ignorance is bliss" has been around so long.

How about a Wiener process with a positive drift?

I called them today, and they told me the same thing: that its going to be early next week. I also asked whether people who haven't received admissions yet were rejections, and she said she couldn't tell me anything about that. So I don't know what to make of that.

Although from what they said when I called earlier in the week, the reason the results haven't been posted online is because they are still waiting for an official list of admissions from the EECS faculty, so in that sense there could still be hope.

Perhaps the people who have already been admitted are those who have an "in" with a professor already, maybe because they were an undergrad at MIT or had some other form of contact with a professor. Maybe they are now still sorting out who else to admit other than the ones they knew from the start they wanted... Just a thought

and if we didn't get any kind of communication from any faculty till now( friday night),that means we have less probability to get admitted. I don't think they would make an offer like that and post in website without having a personal touch.

I too was replied the same answer when i asked is it rejects for people who didn't get any sorta admit mail. She said she can't say anything about that and we have to check app time to time. Well that drained my hope then.

The facebook MIT EECS ADMITS page do look like many are being admitted and they're sure of it. It would be foolish to assume we have more than fewer seats tangling for the remaining students.

We would get a PhD on Mit eecs admissions than getting into MIt eecs for phd if we keep analyzing like this. Maybe that is what they want :-P :-P

I'm pretty sure this is the case. Of the three schools I've heard from already, two were cases where I'd already had contact with the research group that accepted me.

mitIndian: Can you do a meta-thesis on the probability that you'll get to write a thesis there? Maybe they'll take another look at you for theory group ;)
