Hi, newbie here

I've been looking at studio/1bed rentals and noticed that they specify window vs central ac.  Which is generally considered better?  I guess that window has the advantage of personal control, but would central mean that the energy cost is already paid for in your rent?

Thanks

Depends on where you live and how hot/cold it can get. So a unit with central A/C has no windows? That doesn't sound very nice.

Unless they say that utility bills are included with the rent, you will have to pay for electricity cost of the A/C.

Central AC just means there is a central compressor. You will still have to pay your own utilities.

Of course it still will have windows |D.

Central AC is generally more energy efficient (unless it is a really old unit), and will cost you less in bills. Here is an article describing the trade offs.

If there is central AC, there is more likely to be central heating as well, which is definitely a good thing in places with cold winters.

The type of a/c you want depends on the climate of the geographical area. In the South, you absolutely want central ( part of your electric bill either way). When I worked a summer in Michigan, we were fine with window units which we rarely turned on. Check into how the home or apartment is heated if you end up going with the window units; if you are in a very cold climate, you may need to buy a good space heater like the Eden pure or something else that has low energy ratings.

I definitely prefer central air, but window units are fine in a pinch, especially if you only have a smaller area to cool (like one room).

Haha, I don't know why I completely didn't get this one :D Forgot about window A/C units.
