clee899 Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Hey guys, I am interested in the politics of different ethnic groups in America, specifically among immigrant communities and in cities. Are there any programs out there that you would recommend for this kind of specific interest? Basically, what are some strong programs in AP, with a focus on ethnic politics?
fenderpete Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Afraid I can't help you with the L. American interest - but check out UPenn's program on Ethnic Conflict and Princeton's Liechtenstein Institute on Self Determination.
clee899 Posted March 11, 2009 Author Posted March 11, 2009 Obviously, I did a poor job explaining what I mean- my bad!! I am looking for strong programs in Race and Politics in America (not ethnic conflict around the world). I'm talking about African-American/Latino/Asian politics in the US. Does anyone know of any schools that are strong in this 'theme' of AP? I heard Duke is strong...any others?

poliscinerd Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 UCLA, is a decent program but there are several others. University of Washington has a good program. Duke has a solid program as well. The University of Maryland, College Park has an up and coming program with good young scholars. Also the University of California-Irvine. All of these programs have professors who study racial and ethnic politics in the U.S. context. It also depends on whether or not you want to focus on a particular group like Latinos, African Americans, Asian-Americans or Native Americans (unfortunately, not a lot of scholars who do this work) Hope this helps!!!!
publicpolicy79 Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 Ken Meier at TAMU runs a research center on this. I think it may be more Public Policy focused than AP though.
restlesswanderer Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 I am not sure about programs as a whole, but I believe Melissa Nobles at MIT researches ethnic and racial politics. I don't know how helpful that is to you though.
