lacanadiense Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 (edited) I know in last year's thread, someone had some success negotiating with GPPI for more money. Any idea how we would go about that? I got a small amount of funding, but there's no way it will offset 42k in tuition and living in DC. So Dinosaur7 - if you want to take a stab at negotiating, my money will definitely be freed up! You could probably get the ball rolling by calling the admissions office and saying something like "I really want to attend GPPI, but finances are very tight, and I was wondering if you think there is a chance more money could be freed up for the incoming class?" Or maybe that's too roundabout, I don't know. Edited March 11, 2013 by lacanadiense
sabrinadevonm Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 $10K. I don't think that's enough to justify going.
Azrou Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 If GPPI is your top choice, then you have nothing to lose by asking for additional funding. At the least I would advise waiting 3-4 weeks before making a decision because you might get an increase without even doing anything. MPPgal 1
MPPgal Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Really I emailed them, as international I can´t even ask for a loan so I explained my situation, I can afford 40+ k per year just not 60 K... maybe it will work, maybe it will not!
MPPgal Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 It does, in the letter there is a nice table showing both years!
MPPgal Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 I just realized I got 10k per year the two semester thing confused me I still need 5 k more at least, but much better
cubs25 Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 It does, in the letter there is a nice table showing both years! Interesting... mine only shows Fall 2013/Spring 2014.
PoissonZheng Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 (ノ﹏<。)GPPI is not giving any scholarship to me...fortunately, Cornell does offer.
victoriage Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Oh..the two semester thing is confusing. Thanks for reminding me. I got 20k/year..10k/semester...
Hilldog2016 Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Lol, so glad I'm not the only one who had trouble deciphering. Mine also only shows Fall 2013/Spring 2014. MPPgal, yours actually shows both semesters of the first year for a total of two boxes, right? Or do you see awards for both years?
east_bound Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 What's the general impression of GPPI's career services? Are they pretty proactive in providing networking/interview opportunities? I'm seriously considering Georgetown and comparing it to Wagner (and maybe SIPA..). It seems so far that they might do a better job than Wagner, but I'm not sure!
Flyers1 Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 Turned down GPPI because of the money factor so anyone who was waitlisted, I hope you are offered the spot. Going to GW admitted students day on Saturday and am leaning very heavily towards attending for my MPA. Can't wait!
Hilldog2016 Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Thanks for letting us know, Flyers1, you officially going with GWU now that you've been to the admitted students day? Has anyone else tried negotiating? I sent an email and have yet to hear back.... *Fingers crossed*
Flyers1 Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Hilldog2016, yes, I am palnning on attending GW in the Fall. Best of luck to everyone else as they make their decisions!

Hilldog2016 Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 Update: I negotiated and went from $10k to $25k + assistantship. If a school is your number one but out of price range, keep at it!

Dang, I was thrilled to get upgraded to $20k (from 10k). I should have kept at it!! Congrats Hilldog--I think I'll be seeing you next year!
just2c Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Who should I email to negotiate. getting upgraded in funding would pretty much set me for GPPI?
