Out of curiosity: does anyone know what the average funding looks like for psyc doctoral students (say school, social, developmental, but really anything). I know NYU has on their site that they give a (I think) about 22.5K stipend a year, but that was the only funding info I have seen online to date. If anyone knows what other school generally offer, or what is considered an incredibly good funding package, I would be extremely interested in the information.

It definitely varies, mostly based on cost of living in a particular location. The best I've seen is 30K-ish for top programs in high cost of living areas (such as parts of CA). 10-20K is more typical.

Both offers I've received (Michigan State, Wayne State) have been right at 17,000. I think the stipend reflects the cost of living for the area. Living around NYU will cost you a lot more than it will cost me to live in Lansing, so they pay you more to accomodate.

I think it really depends on the location/cost of living.  I've seen some as low as 10K and some higher around 25K.  Mine are averaging at around 17-20K.  I'm in social/experimental.

Private/Public also makes a big difference. I know UT's HDFS program runs just under 17k (9 mo), but Duke's social psych program offers 27k for the year. Both places have relatively equal cost of living.

I've seen everything from $10,000 - $40,000 for social programs, depending on public vs private and cost of living. The APA's Graduate Study in Psychology has funding numbers for programs.

I've seen/heard mostly around $20k, give or take $5k. I know one school I applied to is closer to $30k, but they are a government-run anomaly.
