ttayl715 Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 I noticed that a number of people had heard from the history department at University of South Carolina. I was just checking my application status online and while it says a decision is still pending, my application no longer says "completed", but it's now "recommended". Anyone know if this is any reason to hope for good news? Also, given that they've already notified other people, should I hold out any hope for funding?
uromastyx Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 I would contact them. It sounds like an acceptance. I would think that means the department has recommended admission to the graduate school.
sweetpearl16 Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 I applied to South Carolina for Anthropology. Last Friday I noticed my application status had changed to recommend. Yesterday I called and the graduate coordinator claimed that it just meant that it was recommend to the admission committee, but he also told me he had a feeling things would fall my way. Today I checked the application status and my decision had changed from pending to admitted. The same thing has happened to a few other people who've applied to South Carolina, so I would definitely take it as a good sign. Good luck!
Laguna Niguel Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 I have a feeling that this means nothing in regards to the chances of you being admitted or not. I think that it is simply indicating that the Graduate School passed your file on to the admissions committee in the department. While I could be wrong, it looks like South Carolina already made their decisions.
Laguna Niguel Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 My application status changed from "recommend" to "decision" today. However, my admission decision still states "decision pending." Probably not a good sign. Probably just waiting on the graduate school to reject me
queenleblanc Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 My app at South Carolina (different program) says "Decision pending." I already heard from the grad coordinator that they are preparing apps for the adcomm. If yours says "Recommended," then either your app has been sent to the adcomm, or it's been recommended for admission to the graduate school, who will then issue the final decision. Either way... don't try to assume too much. They will surely give you official information soon! :-)
ttayl715 Posted February 19, 2013 Author Posted February 19, 2013 My status also changed to "decision" so perhaps we'll hear something tomorrow. Given that they've already sent out earlier offers of admission I'm not holding my breath about being accepted or accepted with funding. Still, maybe they're just working through the stacks and still have money to hand out. We'll see what happens.

I think at this point we are just waiting for the Graduate School to update the admission decision to "rejected."
ttayl715 Posted February 20, 2013 Author Posted February 20, 2013 Rejections went out via the South Carolina website today.
ttayl715 Posted February 21, 2013 Author Posted February 21, 2013 I've still got four schools I'm waiting to hear from. One, WashU, just started sending out rejections so maybe I'll hear something tomorrow. Otherwise, this application season is going to be off to a depressing start.
