fimbulvetr Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 I know this a ridiculous question because it's mostly based on a vain hope, but staring down the odds of becoming a 0% this cycle I'm already anxious to start reapplying. I know it would be incredibly uncommon if it existed at all, but is anyone aware of programs that accept for the Spring semester?

If you are a California resident (or willing to move to CA for an MA program), check with the CSU system. Depending on the budget situation, they sometimes offer Spring admissions.
asleepawake Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 There are a number of MA programs that do, though probably not with funding.
muchado Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 I'm in an MA program that not only has spring acceptances with funding but also has a May 1 deadline for funded spots for Fall 2013.
ishmael Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Muchado, are you willing to tell us where exactly you go?
muchado Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Anyone interested can shoot me a PM, and I'd be happy to share.
Gwendolyn Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Got bored, did a search. Seems like a lot of satellite campuses offer this option. Just search "English spring deadlines." muchado Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 A few MA programs that I've heard of that are still taking applications for admission and for assistantships: Abilene Christian University College of Charleston Winthrop University

I went to the same MA program as MuchAdo--they have a pretty good track record of getting their MA students into PhD programs (my year, three of us applied, and three of us got in. The year before that, three applied and two got in.) It's rigorous, but I loved my two years there. muchado 1
ishmael Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Starting to freak out now.... University of Kentucky rejected me. They were one of the lowest-ranked unis on my list... it might be time to look at applying to schools that are still accepting applications... Sigh.
Datatape Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Sorry to hear that, ishmael. Were you applying to their M.A. or Ph.D.?
ishmael Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 MA. I still have to hear back from five more schools, but I'm way shaken up from KY and the string of rejections I've had the last week (even though they were sort of stretch schools...).

InHacSpeVivo Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Has anyone heard anything about UNC Charlotte or Winthrop's placement for PhD programs? I'm going to apply to a couple MA programs site some really excellent placements; I was thinking about applying to these as well, but I couldn't find anything about where their graduates end up.
