michaelwebster Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 The Open: Man and Animal by Giorgio Agamben
Emoree Posted March 1, 2013 Author Posted March 1, 2013 (edited) The Open: Man and Animal by Giorgio Agamben wow that looks really awesome, thank you so much. it sounds like what i'm looking for! my local library is really bad, but maybe i can use the university library (assuming they're any better). And I know this is very old news, but just in case, Baudrillard has an essay about animals in Simulacra & Simulation - among other things it touches on sentimentality, and the silence of animals. Also Deleuze & Guattari discuss animals at various points in A Thousand Plateaus. I really should know more. I'll try to think of something more current. yeah, steve baker discusses Baudrillard and Deleuze & Guattari in The Postmodern Animal. they sound like exactly what i don't want to read--- ie, they are mired in the same old prejudices and opinions that I want to get away from-- but thank you for mentioning them! Did you guys see Paola Antonelli (MoMA) on Colbert this week?? This is what she said of "what" we are right now: "We are post-post-postmodern, present, pre-future, but a little bit of future today, with the history that comes with us." Hah! And continued with: "Be yourself. Be in the moment. You're going to be modern." Hah again! Edited March 1, 2013 by Emoree

That's why i don't get wrapped up in these things. But that's hilarious, I love Colbert too... gonna have to watch that one. Emoree 1
MerlotMonday Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Not a reading, but there is a post-postmodern movement called the New Sincerity.
Emoree Posted March 2, 2013 Author Posted March 2, 2013 Not a reading, but there is a post-postmodern movement called the New Sincerity. yes, i've heard about that, and also neo-sentimentalism (seems mostly to apply to literature, though, at this point).
