Cooleggyh Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Well, I applied for the math PhD program at Berkeley, LA, Michigan, Yale and Minnesota. It seems all of them have sent out tens of offers as well as rejections. However, I don't have any news from them. What should I do? Email and ask? Or just wait? Do we have some reliable sources from these schools? Thanks!
echlori Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 FWIW, I emailed as I was in a similar situation and it has been more than 2 months since I submitted my applications. It might be possible that some schools are still making decisions, and you might just be in the next batch of offers sent out, or you might be wait-listed. Good luck! Maybe you might wake up to a pleasant surprise tomorrow
Cooleggyh Posted March 1, 2013 Author Posted March 1, 2013 thanks a lot. It's been four months since I sent all my applications. Anyway, let's wait it out.
aberrant Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 (edited) thanks a lot. It's been four months since I sent all my applications. Anyway, let's wait it out. I think you should go ahead and e-mail those schools regarding your application status / admission decision. 睇唻你係一個數學神人喎. lol. Edited March 1, 2013 by aberrant

echlori Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Yeah, it can be a good thing if you haven't gotten an email yet. The waiting is terrible though.
ak48 Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 i see no downside to politely inquiring where in the application process they are in.
Reatha Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 I'm in the same boat. I haven't heard anything from 6 school that I applied to (although I was rejected from 3) I'm planning on inquiring with the schools this week since there really is no harm in calling to ask where they are at. Just don't ask if your decision is ready. Ask where they are in their admissions decisions.
emt17 Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 Same here. Haven't heard anything from the 3 schools i applied to. Does one of your schools happen to be Northwestern, Reatha?
nope Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 No news is either good news or someone forgot to send out an email. I'd inquire.
daydreamer254 Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 No news is either good news or someone forgot to send out an email. I'd inquire. I hope that's true! But to Cool, it's fine to ask. Go for it!
Cooleggyh Posted March 5, 2013 Author Posted March 5, 2013 Just got one rejection from Berkeley. But thank you guys really. I plan to send some emails by end of this week. But should I ask the secretary or the director of graduate study? Thanks again!
nope Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 I emailed the point of contact listed on their website for the graduate section of the department I'm applying to. If that makes sense. echlori 1
echlori Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 It depends. There was a school where the director of graduate admissions had called me previously, so I emailed him directly. The other schools - I had previous email contact with the admins so I emailed them instead. Otherwise, the admin might be a good start if there is no other obvious point of contact.
