  1. Hey guys! How is your apartment hunting going? Is someone considering living in some multi-bedroom place? I feel they are always cheaper and better than single-bedroom. I am a male from China, but spent my undergrad years in HongKong, Philadelpha, Ihaca and Waterloo. I am outgoing but do not like parties at my own place. Love music and play the guitar. Love movies but not the Hollywood type. Do not have a car but plan to get one in the second year at Austin. Looking for someone to share a rent.
  2. They have a a center for non-commutative geometry and operator algebra, which seems to have some top people. But other than that, it seems vandy math is not so well-known. Should I go there?
  3. Hi, all! I am going to Vanderbilt to study mathematics. I am looking for someone to share a rent, so that we can have a much better 2 bedroom apartment at a much lower cost. I am from Mainland China but spent my undergraduate years in Hong Kong, Philadelphia (PA), Ithaca (NY) and Waterloo (ON). I am outgoing but do not like parties at my own place. and I love music and movies. PM me if you are interested.
  4. I would say the graduate division at UCLA has not been very helpful and friendly during my several encounters with them.
  5. With the silence from most other schools I applied for, it is highly probable that I would have to choose between the math departments at UT, Austin and Vanderbilt. I am not quite sure about the choice and would like to hear your advice (about academics as well as life). Thanks!
  6. I applied for math. But some of my friends applied for Biostat but got rejected last week.
  7. It is amazing since we applied for exactly the same schools. I got one offer from Vanderbilt and I am gonna decline that. Hopefully that will help you. I also got rejections from Chicago and Berkeley. Have you got any news from Michigan?
  8. Just got one rejection from Berkeley. But thank you guys really. I plan to send some emails by end of this week. But should I ask the secretary or the director of graduate study? Thanks again!
  9. Also, does this depends on the program? It seems it is easier for people in humanities to get in contact, but as far as I know, we people in mathematics do not really get that much reply.
  10. Haha, thanks for the compliment. I am not sure about this. It seems most of those who emailed got rejected. LoL
  11. thanks a lot. It's been four months since I sent all my applications. Anyway, let's wait it out.
  12. Well, I applied for the math PhD program at Berkeley, LA, Michigan, Yale and Minnesota. It seems all of them have sent out tens of offers as well as rejections. However, I don't have any news from them. What should I do? Email and ask? Or just wait? Do we have some reliable sources from these schools? Thanks!
