slpgal123 Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 I'm planning on commuting too which took me about an hour yesterday when I left during non-rush hours. If the commute becomes too much, I'll look into housing which Eileen said she is happy to help people with if they need some advice. Fortunately though, she said in our fall semester we'll only be taking classes which most people have 3 days a week (I hope!) which would be very doable. Then in the second semester, most people begin working in the on-campus clinic where you're assigned 1 or 2 patients to work with. They also have group therapy sessions for kids and adults. They currently have 99 patients visiting the clinic from ages 16 months to 91 years-old which people pay for but at a reduced rate because it's a teaching facility. There is a guy in a booth where you can swipe your student ID to park in the lot which is free. If you wanted to park on the main campus which is about a mile away to go to the gym, financial aid office, etc. I believe you would need a parking permit. But I've also heard that there is a shuttle that runs from the clinic to the main campus so it really looks like you shouldn't have to pay for parking at all! Here is the link to our Montclair Facebook group again: http://www.facebook.com/groups/130556483797805/ if mystique or slpgal want to join! Mystique, congrats on making your decision on Montclair! I hope ald360 and I talked you into it yesterday Wow.. an hour is rough! I give you credit for trying that haha. Hmmm only 3 days a week? That would be super wonderful, and definitely make commuting make more sense. The girl who I got a tour with said most people don't have classes Friday, and that she's had class 4 days a week the last 2 semesters. When I talked to her she told me the courses she took first semester, and now I wish I had written them down haha oops. But I thought that "Diag in Spch-Lang Path" (CSND - 512) might have been one of the ones she said, and that course is listed as being on Friday.... sooo I'm a little scared that I'll end up with class 5 days a week but we'll see!
thirdchild012 Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 For those going to/considering going to Montclair, do you plan on commuting or does anyone plan on finding a place around there? I'm planning on commuting for at least a couple semesters!

slpgal123 Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 Where do you see that class as being on Fridays? If you log into your WESS account, there's a place to search courses for the Fall. And you can see a list of all of the CSD courses offered, and that one course I mentioned is listed as being on Fridays. I'm just hoping we don't have to take that first semester because that's really the only Friday one I saw haha.

slpgal123 Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 Nope, nothing. Unless you count the estimated payment that's on our WESS accounts. I feel like everyone just gets a loan though, and that's unfortunately probably it for the "financial aid" we'll receive haha.

slpgal123 Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 Not even work-study though? Hmmm I'm really not sure. I guess it's possible! I feel like I've heard that not much work study is given out, but I'm really not positive in any shape or form haha. So maybe work study could be on there .

That would be pretty generous..Montclair's tuition is so cheap already that I'm not really concerned at all! I was preparing myself financially for NYU before and this is just the complete opposite of that situation
slpgal123 Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 So true! Montclairs tuition is dirt cheap in comparison. I wonder what the total numbers will end up being. Sounds like people get placed in a different number of credits depending on prereqs/what they need. Since I haven't taken neuro, pretty sure I'll be in 5 courses but we'll see!
mystiqueSLP Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 Do you know if the cost of pre-reqs is considered the same as graduate credit even though they're usually undergrad courses?
slpgal123 Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 Hmmm good question. Unfortunately I think the cost is the same. Since Montclair doesn't have an CSD undergrad, any courses that are taken for CSD I imagine is through the graduate program. So I'm pretty sure the cost will be the same.
slpf13 Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 seems like mostly everyone on this thread is going to Montclair!! (no, I'm not. I didn't apply there...lol)
mystiqueSLP Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 I sent an email declining my offer at NYU even though I sent my deposit already and afterwards, my mom was like, "why did you decline already?? What if Montclair doesn't receive your deposit in time??" so now I'm really worried that might happen now :/ I sent it through overnight mail on Thursday so I hope it gets there on time!

It was sent on Thursday of last week? From what I remember, you don't live so far from Montclair. So I think you'll be fine

Haha my mom keeps telling me I should call and confirm they got my deposit! Apparently our moms are on the same page, and are making us a little nervous. I'm sure we're just being paranoid though lol
slpgal123 Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 So weird, I just got an email from Tishonda Jones from Seton Hall saying that they reviewed my 3 syllabi and they fulfill the requirements. Except this is from like 1.5 months ago, and still no word on an admissions decision. I wonder if I'll ever here back lol
mystiqueSLP Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 It was sent on Thursday of last week? From what I remember, you don't live so far from Montclair. So I think you'll be fine Thursday of this week and it's due the 22nd :/ I live about 20 mins away so it's not too bad. I considered handing it in person but I was worried that might mess up the process and I also had to get back to school for classes. I also RSVPed on their decisions website with the code enclosed in the letter so hope that makes up for my deposit possibly arriving late.

My check went through yesterday so I'm now able to be confident that it went through . Looking forward to meeting all of you!
kryan14 Posted April 20, 2013 Posted April 20, 2013 I've heard back from just about every school I applied to, except for William Paterson. Its been over 10 weeks now since I applied. I've seen/talked to some people who have already gotten decisions, so I don't know where that leaves me. Even if it's a rejection, I'd still like to hear some kind of answer. Has this happened to anyone else?
BlarneyStone87 Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 Checked my portal for Temple today and finally a decision was made: Rejected. So thankful I was accepted to other schools, but Temple would have been so close! Finally heard from all of my schools and now instead of being 99% sure I'm going to Montclair I can say I'm a 100% sure. The one good thing about it is not having to suffer between picking between my two top choices
MBF89 Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 I also have not heard from William Patterson (or LIU Brooklyn and Seton Hall). I have already sent a deposit for Kean but I agree, I would still like to hear decisions from these schools since we spent all this time and money on these applications!

I too have not yet heard from Seton Hall in terms of a decision. They sent me an email saying my application is incomplete, including a checklist. Everything on the checklist was marked as received...so i was confused, to say the least. In any case, my final decision is made. I just would like to hear from my remaining schools because, as you said, paid so much in application fees, transcript ordering, etc.
