Wishing everyone good luck on studying for and taking their final exams (probably why the boards are so quiet)!!!

I took my pre-requisites at SUNY New Paltz. It's a 1 year program offering 9-10 prereq courses, and you get a certificate afterwards. It helped me get into 4 schools this year (still waiting on 1 more), and it was my first application season. I didn't have a stellar undergraduate GPA, so I made sure to work hard on the pre-reqs. Initially, I wasn't going to apply with any pre-reqs last year, but then I wrote to a lot of graduate programs, and they recommended that I take them because I'd be competing with people who either had pre-reqs or a full bachelor's degree in CSD. Hi kem1, I don't think this is a "stupid" topic at all. I really think you have a chance at graduate school. Not everyone on this site has the perfect 4.00 GPA, and if you've been looking at the gradcafe results page (keyword search: speech) and then hover over the red diamond for stats (GPA, GRE scores), you'll see that this is true. A lot of people don't post stats for whatever reason, so we don't really get a full idea of what the range of stats really is. As mentioned before in Fall 2013 SLP thread, admissions doesn't only look at stats. They look at the overall applicant: LORs (letters of recommendation), research, volunteer work, dissertations, lab work, shadowing, observation hours. This is why your professor said you would have a chance because you have been doing research work. Just review the GRE concepts really well, get extra help and finish off the semesters you have left strong!! Good Luck. Also*: Be sure to apply to a wide range of schools. I'd say 10-15 is a good range of schools. Pick schools geographically diverse. Schools in rural areas are looking for more diversity and take students out of state.

Regarding the Seton hall issue, they emailed me saying I was missing a transcript after that transcript had been stated as been received in previous emails. I am flustered with their disorganization at this point and I'm not going to spend money on the mailing of another transcript. Oh well.

slpgal123: That's really odd that they asked you for a high school transcript. Did you perhaps, complete a CSD related course like Sign language for extra credit in high school? Other than that possibility, I have no idea why they'd want to access your high school information. None of my schools have asked me for high school information. The last time I wrote anything about my high school was for my FAFSA. Unless you accidentally applied to their undergraduate program?! Doesn't make sense to me lol!

I too have not yet heard from Seton Hall in terms of a decision. They sent me an email saying my application is incomplete, including a checklist. Everything on the checklist was marked as received...so i was confused, to say the least. In any case, my final decision is made. I just would like to hear from my remaining schools because, as you said, paid so much in application fees, transcript ordering, etc.

Bcjami, In my opinion, I think taking pre-reqs is very important not only because most schools require them but it'll make you feel more knowledgeable about the subject matter you are going to pursue. Most post-bach programs take a year or less. I took pre-reqs and I feel as though without them I wouldn't have gotten into any schools. If you are taking pre-reqs and doing really well in them..it will prove to grad schools that you know basics of the subject matter that you are going to delve into when starting a graduate program. It also makes one look better rounded when they have more than 1 field of interest..

I got into SUNY New Paltz off the waitlist. Finally, this process has come to an end. I want to thank you all for the support and I'll still be checking in every day. I am keeping hopes for those of you still waiting for this process to come to an end. <3

kcald, I have complete confidence in you as an individual (from reading your past posts) that you will be able to get through the summer and you'll be fine in graduate school. Just take it easy, 1 day at a time, get things done systematically, and don't think of everything at once. That will just overwhelm you. If the school says that they have registered you and you have your seat, there is no doubt in my mind that you will be in that program. You have considered everything before committing to that program, and you are just getting last minute jitters that will pass through when you finally find yourself in a classroom seat at the first day of class. Please, do not panic. You will be fine!! (huggggggggggg) lol

I got into SIUC (Southern Illinois University at Carbondale) today off of the waitlist. Now I have finally have a couple of options to compare, and I am very grateful for this. I am still expecting to hear from more schools though and i stilll don't know what to do. So, waitlisters, be patient.

Well, I just got into Southern Illinois university @ Carbondale off the waitlist...I posted it on the results page but I keep accidentally reversing my verbal and q scores bc i rush through it lol. So, I guess the waitlists are moving!

Waitlists could go well into the summer for some schools. In truth, schools have been taking people off the waitlist from April 15- August in the past. So, there's really no way to know. It's dependent on school deadlines (the later the deadline, the later you'd hear from the school and vice versa) and when people decide to accept or reject their seats. There is no 1 day where all schools accept people from the waitlist, unfortunately. And so.. the waiting continues- into the summer. Hopefully sooner.

I am on 2 waitlists, and i'm very anxious to hear from either of them. One school said there were 15 seats left but won't tell me what spot I am in the waitlist, and the other school won't give me any info about how many are on the waitlist or how many spots are left. I'm just crossing my fingers that I get something positive within the next week. I am keeping high hopes for anyone else whose top choices are in the waitlist, and for anyone who has not yet received any acceptances yet. Cheers!

I too got a rejection from ETSU. It was a far away choice for me so it's not a huge deal. But they did say they had a lot of applicants this year. I wonder how many they had. I just posted it on the results page but reversed my verbal and math score

katieliz456, I think Baylor sounds better. Because of the scholarship you'll be getting every semester (I think you said 25K) Plus, it's starting in the summer, so you get a head start And 10K more doesn't sound too enticing to me. GL with your decision though! Go with whatever you feel comfortable living with foreverr lol!

That's odd. You should call if they said to expect decisions by this week?

I hope the NP waitlist starts moving soon. Of course, they won't tell us our rankings/spots! I know you will have a wonderful time at UNC-Chapel Hill. I have heard so many positive things about the program and wish I had thought to apply there. Good luck!

I also applied late, around mid-late January. I did have all the pre-reqs done though (the speech and hearing related courses as well as the general classes). The notifications by phone are very slow. They seem to trickle in 1 at a time and started back in the beginning of March. I am not too keen on Seton because of the high tuition ($1,033 per credit!!), but it is the closest option I have left so it will be one I consider if I get in. The secretary seems to be handling a lot of applications from her email response rate. I emailed her maybe 3 times total, and she takes like about a month to reply back to my email lol! It just puzzles me why people are being waitlisted when the school is still sending more acceptances (albeit slowly). I really hope we hear soon!

funny that Seton hall offered so many spots last year, but I and quite a few others have yet to hear from them this year. I notice you have Seton on your list as well, blarneystone87. Hear anything? I know some people are getting waitlisted, but I have a feeling they aren't quite done accepting. I wonder why?
