that is funny! UH is very convenient albeit pricey, but I trust it to be in a much more safer location than any of the houses downtown. I have a lot of friends attending ACPHS and SUNY Albany, and I'm very familiar with the location.

Congrats hopefulslp88! St. Rose is quite the darling little campus in the midst of a busy city. Housing might be a bit difficult to find around the area. I know of the University Heights building in Albany near Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sci. It is barely 10 minutes away. Perhaps, they allow for St. Rose students to rent out apts as well. Do consider posting your decision (if it is final) in the "post where you decide to go so others can contact you" thread. It might be easier to look through. Best of luck to you! Here is the housing link: http://www.uhcollegesuites.com/

matrixgrl, April 15th is supposed to be the deadline for people to accept offers. But some schools want answers earlier and some notify way later. I wish everyone played by the April 15th rule though!! & burns brightly, hang in there, maybe the waitlist will pull you through..

seahorse, I am sure that is not the case for starting SLP CFY students. It might take a few good connections/years to get up to that range even in the city (I think that's what the poster was referring to). Considering the cost of living of the city, transportation, and paying off the loans from NYU or Columbia..that salary is just what one would need. But, yes, SLPs do seem to earn higher wages here because of the population density and the prime location. But, consider the cost of life in NYC first!! lol! Even $120 K might not be enough! NY also requires extra certification especially to work in schools, including the TSSLD certification if you want to work in a school or anywhere near children (clinic, school, or hospital) and NY also requires re-licensing and continuing coursework every few years. All of that might be on ASHA. So, yes nice salary (eventually) but long road.

I'm only going to announce the school I've picked after I made my decision, and I still have like 4 or 5 more schools to hear from, plus the two on my wait list. I'd like to remain a little inconspicuous in that sense. It's like a surprise for you guys lol. But, I will tell you that the school that has accepted me is not one high on my list and it's very much a safety school, only because it's far for me and I'd like to remain in the NE if I can.

Tuck, you have some great choices there I wish you luck with your decision making! & DShenge, I hope you will keep trying to attain your goal of becoming a SLP, and like Tuck and a few others have stated, it's important to destress and then slowly get back to applications. Also, some schools do have later deadlines if you look into ASHA Edfind, or Spring Admission (Fort Hays, St. John's). I will certainly keep you in my thoughts. Best

I keep seeing Seton Hall acceptances trickle in 1 at a time...why do they insist on informing one person a day? lol! I wish they'd update their website as well. Mine hasn't been updated since I submitted it back in early January. The tuition at Seton is $1, 033 per credit hr, so I think people are just wilting at the thought.... & Hopeful! no matter what happens, you are safe now. May I ask which school is your top choice thus far?

hi tacomatalks! Out of the list I gave you, only Nova offers a fully online masters SLP/CSD program . I've also heard of James Madison (DLVE), and East Carolina (which you already know about) as well. I think University of Wyoming also offers a fully online Master's program. Yupp, they do. I find your optimism and perseverance very refreshing and I hope you can achieve your career goals soon

yay! Jmarti! i'm so very happy for you!! good luck apt hunting..there might be a fb thread too for that school/program.

That's an awesome idea hopeful... I was just thinking of sending coffee shop gift cards...idk I always feel like coffee saves the day! lol. Might have to see what else they would need and look into more fun options! I also have male LOR writers haha..

I would like to make a few suggestions. I too, am out of field and took pre-reqs online. I do not have a stellar cumulative GPA, but I worked hard on my CSD courses to bring it up. And the CSD GPA does count a lot obviously... I would suggest expanding the geographic locations of schools to which you apply. Schools in the south, southeast, and some of the mid west in rural areas (needing to diversify) seem to be less competitive. Also, school that are still earning/ or are in the first year of starting a new CSD/SLP graduate program are also not quite competitive yet (they will be soon!!). Also, some schools that are currently being re-accreditated, reviewed (all ASHA schools go through this every few years). These schools will still allow you to earn your CCCs and they are still great small programs. Some of these schools are: University of the District of Columbia (Washington, DC), Fort Hays State University (Kansas), Grand Valley State University, Midwestern University, University of Nebraska Kearney, Louisiana Tech University, Howard University, Hampton University (VA), Nova Southeastern University (they take a lot of people and offer a slpD degree). So, point is, expand your options if you can. Really, look through Edfind on ASHA's website and see how many people each school takes, the GPAs/GREs, and apply to schools where you are competitive (above or equal to the stats), and you will have a chance!! Don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone, if this is really what you want to do! Best of luck!

Anyone hear anything from Mercy College on this thread after their interview? I had an interview recently and haven't heard back and some people have already..I think they are evaluating each person carefully after their interview. They did say by April 15th, so I'll have to be patient. GL!

and the Seton Hall phone calls are still continuing to trickle in. I suppose it's because people they accepted in the beginning of March reconsidered/declined their acceptance and sought after less expensive tuition options. I'm still waiting to hear anything! hopefulslp88 I am psyched for you! St. Rose is a small campus but it seems like a tight/intimate learning area, they seem to be focused more on the education vs. the medical aspects of SLP..very cool! I love hearing good news.. i think you'll have more choices!

Congratulations!!!

hmm.. jmarti, USF sounds better to me because of the clinic (you can see CI patients year round), the tuition (!!), and the location (FL is beautiful). Just my opinion What other opportunities does USC offer besides the opportunity to see CI surgeries?
-
Congrats on getting into USC off the waitlist! As for more classes, it will certainly have an effect on the tuition per semester, more classes= more credits.
-
I did see someone post an a phone call acceptance today, so I assume Seton Hall is still giving out acceptances. April 5th is a bit early to reply. I wish all schools obeyed the Apr. 15 deadline. :/ But, I hope everyone continues to get good news this week!!
-
Congrats Jmarti!! I was keeping my hopes up for you and you got into your dream school! I'm so happy for you!
-
The wait for Seton hall is getting to me. It's last NY/NJ region school I'm waiting for. I think I'm gonna be wait listed or rejected because accepted people received a phone call so long ago :/ Have you heard anything (those who applied)? I rather get it over with lol

Dream School or Free School?
slpf13 replied to MakinChoices's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
My decision making factors would include: 1. Location (being closest to home) 2. Tuition (I will be taking loans because my parents have paid for my undergrad and pre-requisite coursework- so I rather take on a less expensive school) 3. Availability of externships with children and bilingual populations (schools, clinics) -I am not expecting a great starting salary..I know that salary will increase gradually throughout the years. So, to me, taking the local choice would be more beneficial in the long run. I don't think you would have applied there if you did not like anything about the school anyway. -Dream schools tend to have larger class sizes, and local schools tend to have smaller class sizes. I think i'd be more focused in a more local school. -
I wish that would happen! lol I am so tired of waiting..I feel like some schools won't even notify me till after THE April 15. & WHY is SIUC taking so long?
-
Congrats Tay1991! I also consider location, tuition, and cost of living to be the most important factors in my decision. Definitely sleep on it. I am glad to see waitlists turning into more acceptances! Gives me hope.
-
You should accept the PSU offer as the deadline to accept their offer approaches, but still keep yourself on the waitlist(s) for your top choice. If anything, you would have to write a letter to your accepted school and say you can't go. At the very most, you'd lose an enrollment deposit. Keep up your hopes though! GL!

Hi there! I haven't seen any rejections posted as of yet for New Paltz. But I think acceptances were already sent first round, and now they will pick people from the waitlist to fill the spots that haven't been filled from the second round. I guess, since I was waitlisted yesterday, that I am from the second round? Confusing process- I do know a few who have not yet been notified, so hang on in there! I checked on my.newpaltz.edu, and the status was just posted under complete, ready for review. Maybe you can call them on Monday, I'm sure there'd be someone in the Grad school office. Good luck!

It looks like SUNY New Paltz is doing rounds of decisions. I made it on the wait list, so now it's just a matter of luck and waiting.. I checked the website first, and then they sent me an email. GL to those of you who applied!
