mystiqueSLP Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 (edited) Looks like I might get into my post-bacc school with the possibility of an assistantship in their speech clinic which will cover my entire tuition. Plus I haven't heard great things about NYU's program (which is just hearsay) but I already know I like the program I'm at now. Nice! I keep hearing that about NYU from people which is a shame :/ I really do like NYU's program despite whatever administrative problems they may have. I like the courses they offer, the on-campus clinics, and the study abroad program. It's a little depressing that people keep saying that their program isn't good and still not mention what exactly is not so great about it. I've only heard about disorganization which, in the grand scheme of things, doesn't seem like a HUGE downside. I guess we'll see on Thursday. I just got into Montclair! Got an email notifying me of my acceptance and it says that my letter will be coming in the mail shortly. Congrats!!! So are they accepting through email only? Edited April 2, 2013 by mystiqueSLP
orangeSLP Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 New to posting on here, but I have been following along for awhile now! I felt the need to finally post as these last weeks of waiting creep by...I too will be attending NYU's event on Thursday! This is my second year applying to SLP programs (last year only a few, this year I have greatly increased my amount and diversity of schools) but NYU is my only acceptance thus far. Just happy to know I will definitely be starting a program in the Fall!

A lot of people are concerned about the tuition costs for NYU which is why I'm asking. I'll be attending the luncheon event so we'll probably run into each other! Mimsy 1
orangeSLP Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Congrats on NYU! So you'll definitely attend NYU this fall if you're not accepted elsewhere? A lot of people are concerned about the tuition costs for NYU which is why I'm asking. I'll be attending the luncheon event so we'll probably run into each other! I am still waiting for a few more results (ugh) but yes, if I am not accepted elsewhere I will definitely be attending in the fall. Which is not to say I am not concerned about the tuition! However, I have spent so much time, money, effort, stress etc during this process including last year that there is no way I see myself turning down this offer to try yet again. Although I am very worried about the cost of NYU, I do think it will be an amazing experience, and I am confident I will (someday) be able to pay off my many many loans! I've never visited, so I am excited to go on Thursday!
clydeyo12 Posted April 2, 2013 Author Posted April 2, 2013 I keep hearing that about NYU from people which is a shame :/ Same here. I wish more details were available. Congrats to all who got acceptances from Montclair and Queens College! Haven't heard from either one yet, which is maybe not a good sign. I hate having to read into these "signs." I wish we would get some decisions already =/
slpgal123 Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Thanks you guys . I'm really not sure, I'm surprised emails were even sent out since in the past years I only saw results on the board by mail. So I wouldn't knock out getting an acceptance in the mail if you didn't get the email. I'm hoping you guys hear good news!

Those are my sentiments exactly when it comes to NYU but everyone keeps bringing up the loans and all this rumored bad news about the program. I'm really excited for Thursday too!
maggiebSLP Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Woo, just got an acceptance email from Montclair, my alma mater! Congrats to everyone else who received good news, and lots of luck to everyone still waiting!

maggiebSLP Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 (edited) Do you by any chance know if they've notified about assistantships/when they would be notifying? There wasn't anything in the email but I'd guess that information would be mailed to us if they've decided on anything already. Edit: although I should say that if anything the CSND department decides on in regards to funding has to go through the financial aid office first, it could be a while. The CSND staff is wonderful, the financial aid staff... Source: dealt with that office for nearly four years as an undergrad. Edited April 2, 2013 by maggieb217

slpf13 Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 and the Seton Hall phone calls are still continuing to trickle in. I suppose it's because people they accepted in the beginning of March reconsidered/declined their acceptance and sought after less expensive tuition options. I'm still waiting to hear anything! hopefulslp88 I am psyched for you! St. Rose is a small campus but it seems like a tight/intimate learning area, they seem to be focused more on the education vs. the medical aspects of SLP..very cool! I love hearing good news.. i think you'll have more choices!

I am actually more interested in the medical side of SLP and made that known when I went up for my interview, I feel confident that I would be able to get the experiences I want in hospital and SNF settings. A professor up there also specializes in pediatric feeding disorders and that is right up my alley!!!
