No, I'm not asking anyone to write mine for me... but I feel very lost as to how to draft one up. What's the format supposed to be? A typical business letter? Similar to my SOP? This is for a Writing Teaching Fellowship for freshman core courses.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Really? No one? I thought everyone was done applications and would have all the time in the world...

I don't know about anyone else, but I've never written one. I didn't have to write one for my fellowship. Maybe you're asking the wrong group of people?

Could you perhaps provide the prompt so that we can have a bit more to go on? I've put together a fellowship application in the past. Most of my efforts were directed towards the particular orientation of the fellowship. More info would be helpful.

Sorry, I didn't mean to come off as demanding. I was merely surprised that there were no replies!

a one-page letter that expresses why you are interested in the position and any teaching, tutoring, or leadership positions that you believe will contribute to teaching

I have a B.Ed and I'm currently teaching College Writing at a local college... think that might be a leg up?

From the prompt, I would suggest thinking of this as less of a "fellowship letter" and more of a cover letter for a teaching position. I would divide up the letter according to the questions asked:

One to two paragraph(s) on your teaching experience

One paragraph on why you want to teach as a grad student (how this fellowship will help you meet your career goals)

Did you need a cover letter when you applied for your current teaching position? If so, start there! Also, let me know if you'd like to read my cover letter for my first teaching position!

Hey thanks! Yeah, I did need a cover letter for that current position but I just looked back at it and it's way too specific to be applicable to this one. I guess I really will just have to sit down and bang it out.

I'll PM you.
