hornedfrogmeg Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 So I got accepted to a school! yay! However it is not my top choice by any means but since I don't have any other acceptances I should consider the program. Anyway, the program is a summer program which means that it is only 6 weeks long. It will take 3-5 summer sessions to receive a Masters degree. They use professors/scholars/professionals from around the world to teach their classes. Does anyone know why a summer program would be a good thing? I am wondering if anyone have done a program like this or if I should just reapply next year in hopes of receiving a full time study program acceptance at a more prestigious school? The idea of taking 3-5 years to finish a masters degree is just silly if I want to get my Ph.D. on top of that.

I would only think it was a good thing if you had a job that gave you the summer off that you didn't want to give up, like a secondary school teaching job. Otherwise, it just seems like dragging the coursework out over a long time for no reason.
Pentothepage Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 I got into one, too, a top-tier one for English/writing etc. I'm a teacher, so the summer thing makes a lot of sense, but BOY does 4 years sound like a long time... I know your indecision well, considering that I also applied to very different programs at year-long schools and am waiting impatiently.
