  1. I had one question: Is there a master list of conferences? I can't seem to find one online. I don't have any publications or conference papers and I feel this might be important for the next round of my applications. Also here is an interesting thing I was told by a former university art history prof about research: "Colleges evaluate research proposals based on how much money they can make off of them
  2. What books/flashcards/etc did you find most helpful. I haven't taken a math class since hs and I'm worried about that portion of the test.
  3. So I have decided I am going to try for a round 2 of applying to schools.... Who has tried this and what tips do you have to make a stronger applicant?
  4. Got into The New School's Media Studies MA Program with a scholarship.... Does anyone know much about this program? Like reputation, housing, etc? I can't seem to get good information about this program. I am planning a visit in the next week or so but you know they are just going to feed me a load of bs haha.
  5. Hey guys, I am looking into attending The New School in the Fall. I am wondering if I should look into Greenwich Village/west village area or if these areas are just too expensive? It also looks like I might have two other roommates, so from what I have seen there are affordable places in the financial district with three bedrooms. Is this a nice area to live or should I look into more brownstone/residential areas?
  6. I was going to say the same about The New School. They should be letting people know within the next week. Also, it wouldn't hurt to email them. Everyone that I have be in contact there has been very friendly and helpful!
  7. I'm in the same position as the orginal poster. I agree with the questions that fuzzylogician poses. These are very good questions and I am trying to answer those myself.
  8. im so excited for you! It's the perfect example of just needing just ONE yes among many nos.
  9. eeek.... not yet. I just got rejected by 2 of 4 of my remaining school this morning :-(
  10. *sigh* Rejected from both UCLA and UT today... Anyone else off to a crappy start to the day?!
  11. im dreading april 1st. I fear a school will email me and say "CONGRATULATIONS! You have been accepted!!" followed up with "APRIL FOOLS!"
  12. grrr ucla is a pain.... My recommendations are on the application status but under other names. I emailed them asking if they had received my recs and who these people were on my application status form. They said they would take care of it. But I haven't seen anything change on that page. I will be pissed if they didn't receive my recs after all.
  13. Im still waiting from two schools I applied to in dec. *sigh*
  14. I haven't had any acceptance/rejection dreams yet. I did have a dream I was waitlisted at a school though. But I have had multiple dreams about being on a campus. It was one of those dreams where I felt like I had been there before and I was telling everyone why I love certain buildings, etc. But it isn't a school that I have been to in real life or even seen. So I'm hoping it's a sign that there is a school out there that is the perfect fit that will accept me.
  15. Do you mind letting me know who posted the MFA acceptance to Hollins University? I got accepted to their MA program (my only acceptance so far) and I was wondering if you were planning on accepting? I just don't know if a summer program is a good idea so any opinions would be helpful.
  16. Still waiting for Columbia, UCLA, UT-Austin and New School. From What I have seen on here from past years it looks like Columbia waits till the first week of april to send out info and UCLA should be around the 25th. As for the New School (Which I don't think anyone else applied to) they want to have everything out by the end of the month. Looks like there's a lot more waiting....
  17. So I got accepted to a school! yay! However it is not my top choice by any means but since I don't have any other acceptances I should consider the program. Anyway, the program is a summer program which means that it is only 6 weeks long. It will take 3-5 summer sessions to receive a Masters degree. They use professors/scholars/professionals from around the world to teach their classes. Does anyone know why a summer program would be a good thing? I am wondering if anyone have done a program like this or if I should just reapply next year in hopes of receiving a full time study program acceptance at a more prestigious school? The idea of taking 3-5 years to finish a masters degree is just silly if I want to get my Ph.D. on top of that.
  18. Oh this should be interesting. I didn't apply for any women's studies programs but I might next year since I want to study the portrayal of women in post WWII society in the film/media.
  19. I made a last ditch effort and applied to a small school about two weeks ago after their deadline had past. I got an acceptance today. yay! Now I'm less than 50/50 on whether I want to join the program but it's a nice boost to my self-esteem to know I'm at least wanted somewhere haha. So it doesn't hurt to email around and ask if any schools are still accepting applications.
  20. Anyone receive any rejects/waitlists from UT-Austin? I'm 99.9% sure I didn't get in so I'm debating whether or not to email them.
  21. I had a questions for the person who posted they were accepted to UT-Austin on the results page. Did they send an email to a group of you saying you were accepted and to introduce yourself? They did that with the MFA program so I was just trying to get info on that.
  22. I went to a private school and we used TAs. However it was a small school so I didn't have TAs except in 2 or 3 courses during my whole undergrad career. And when TAs were used, they never taught except for my Psychology Lab one semester. It definitely depends on the school and department. I do wonder why being a private university has anything to do with not having TAs.
  23. Applied to 5 schools and heard nothing so far. The waiting sucks... oh well.
  24. I have a question for those the applied at Parsons- Do you know if there is anyway to track your application online? I have emailed the New School and didn't hear back from them, so I'm coming to you guys haha.
  25. If I don't get into any of my school I applied to this year I will apply to some schools in London and see how that goes.
