  1. This is what I'm somewhat fighting with myself with. I applied for a program a few weeks after the deadline after I contacted the school and they said it wasn't too late to apply. So I figured why not? It's not a place I think I would like to go to, but the school has been great in emailing me. Today I received an email from them saying that since they had not received the rest of my application if I wanted to personally email it to the graduate admissions director. Now this seems like the greatest thing I have encountered in the whole application process. This school seems to be friendly, helpful, etc etc. So do I consider them if I am accepted, though it is only a summer program and will take 3-4 years to complete a masters and may not be the best program? It's just a nice breath of fresh air from the other programs I have applied to that refuse to be helpful in anyway.
  2. Nicely said.
  3. Yes, this school is VERY VERY conservative. Anyone that chooses to break the mold is somewhat hassled. I went to a Christian private uni in TX and it was far less conservative than A&M. If you love roughneck boys it is a great place for you haha. I actually nearly transfered to A&M after my freshman year because I enjoy how down to earth everyone there is compared to the entitlement that some people display at my private university. Don't expect many liberals down in College Station. However there are quite a few foreign students especially grad students so that does help with some diversty. I'm marrying an aggie, so they are great people. Northgate has some nice bars. I enjoy going there, though I never was much of a partier.
  4. I love that song. I need to put it on a loop right about now!
  5. I think this whole process is making me sick. For the last few days every time I signed in here I felt sick to my stomach. Now I feel sick whether or not I'm looking at the forum or not. I'm so over this whole waiting stuff.
  6. Anyone know if there is a way to track applications at The New School? I sent an email to the department I applied to and did not receive a response.
  7. Here is part of a song that I always listen to when I need inspiration. It's a song from Broadway's "Little Women" (Yes I'm a broadway nerd) called "Astonishing" I may be small But I've got giant plans To shine as greatly as the sun I will blaze until I find my time and place I will be fearless, Surrendering modesty and grace I will not disapear without a trace I'll shout and start a riot Be anything but quiet
  8. Dang! You've already heard from Parsons? That's exciting. Hopefully that means I will hear back from New School's Media Studies MA program soon.
  9. This guy's dancing makes me happy http://vimeo.com/3237836 Hey if we don't get into any of our schools we can make vids like these until the next cycle of applications!
  10. Check out Green River Ordinance's new CD. http://www.greenriverordinance.com/ It's awesome and there's two songs that help my grad school depression. "Goodbye LA" helps with the I don't think I'm getting into UCLA blues lol. As for something to take my mind off the stress I opened an Etsy.com shop so I spend my time sewing and selling items there. Bad news isI have spent a lot of money on supplies and buying other handmade items from other sellers. But it helps to distract!
  11. Can't say that I like cats. But I wish dogs were as easy to take care of. When I work freelance gigs it's 10-15 hour days and there's no way if I were to get a dog they could wait to go out to do their business for that long. I need to litter box train my future dog lol.
  12. My prediction is that I really did screw up like I think I did. So I think I got into 0 of 4 schools. I am currently applying to 1 or 2 back up schools but I think those let everyone in so I might get into those lol. I don't know if I would go to either school though.
  13. My fiance and I got engaged nearly a year ago. He will be in undergrad still until dec. 2010 (I think his 6th year?) so if I get into grad school it will be a while before we get married. I actually put off the wedding (that was originally planned for the summer) because I was applying for grad schools and thought at that time I would get into a program. Well now it doesn't look good to get into any of my schools and I'm like well s**t what do I do now haha.
  14. I suggest Laynes Chicken. Always my first stop
  15. Good ol' Columbia. Not only did they send us one email.... there was two spam messages. They are really just trying to screw with us!
  16. What do you mean current MA Students? Do current students find out who is accepted before those accepted are?
  17. It's amazing how much better my applications are now than for my Dec deadline applications. So I wish that my life was not as stressful as it was when I was applying then. There is a long list of things that I wish I could have changed. Not much I can do about that now. :-(
  18. Talked to UT-Austin today... They said they are still reviewing apps, but are "very close" to being done. Not a lot of info, but something nonetheless.
  19. It's kind of hard to narrow the two cities down to neighborhoods... well at least for me. But here is a little info.... Bryan = pretty rough/"ghetto", but utilities are cheaper than in CS. If you want quiet then don't live in the Northgate area where all the bars are. Also avoid places like Melrose Apartments where crazy party-lovin' undergrad often live. One of my favorite apartment complexes is Signature Park in Bryan. It's a little more expensive but it's alittle out of the way which is nice. Check out some of the townhouses and duplexes as well. Someone them are really nice.
  20. Ahhh! Thanks for the posts guys. The rejection song is amazing. I will have it on stand by at a moments notice
  21. Thanks for the info. Any insight into the program is nice. I don't know whether you can answer this but do you know how close the program is to making decisions on students and how many were accepted/waitlisted, etc. Any information like that would be nice :-D
  22. I'm from TX as well. (Not an aggie, but I might as well be...WHOOP!). Anyway... I applied to two NYC school so hopefully I will find out!
  23. Are there more applicants as well? I had heard that more people were looking into Grad school because of the economy to delay the job search, but does anyone know if there is an increase in applicants?
  24. That is mean. You could be like me though and have ZERO emails if you would like. Not even a teaser.
  25. This whole process sucks doubly much for me because I work freelance and I have been out of school since dec without any work. Everyday I apply to multiple jobs and so not only am I checking for work I am checking grad school stuff. It's so pathetic to get zero emails about either one. I don't know what i am going to do if I don't get into any graduate school and I can't ever get work. ack!
