  1. I have contacted everyone and their brother at all my schools, and it didn't hurt me with admissions. NYU Steinhardt, for example, specifically requested no contact, but I emailed and phoned them until I heard good news. =) I was always polite and definitely "spread the wealth" - ie didn't keep contacting the same office over and over. And today I bugged Columbia into making my decision available online, and as I have yet to receive an email from them, I'm not sure I would have found out for a while yet otherwise (they were telling me 2-3 weeks).
  2. I just heard via the website before they even sent out an email... woot! I'm in.
  3. AGH! Just found out by checking the website: I am IN! Harassing the offices pays off.
  4. Oh wow... right after I wrote that message, I got a phone call from one of the secretaries I had bugged. According to her, I should be hearing today or tomorrow... whew. Nervousness resumes now.
  5. Is anyone else incredibly frustrated with Columbia Teachers College? The original decision notification date was March 15th. Then, on March 16th, I received a notice that my program requested some more time to make its decisions. A conversation with admissions that day informed me that I would probably hear within a week. Well, a week has gone by, in which I have heard nothing, and today both Admissions and my Department (Leadership, Politics and Policy) refused to give me any information about notification dates, each telling me that I should ask the other for more specific information. One frazzled secretary informed me that it would "probably" be within 2-3 WEEKS that I would hear. 2-3 WEEKS?! That'd likely give me all of 2 days to make my decision, were I to get accepted. At the start of all of this, Columbia was my first choice program. Now I feel so frustrated that I am turned off of the school entirely. It's one thing to take forever, but to be so incapable of making the process transparent.... ugh.
  6. Yes, Jojoishere, I received the same email. And oops - the program is Leadership, Politics and Policy, not what I said before. And man... I had better find out before April 15th... I'm becoming really frustrated with Columbia.
  7. Am I the only one who is still waiting for a reply from Columbia TC? I applied to the Leadership, Politics and Advocacy program and have heard nothing except for their "we'll be a while longer" email last Monday . This has to be a bad sign.
  8. I still haven't heard from Columbia - including no reply to my email to the head of my program - and it's a bit of a turn off, even from what is likely my top choice.
  9. There was a thread about this that I started a few weeks ago. I got several replies from people who had indeed heard via email or website on weekend, and even a few who heard via phone. I know Columbia's system is automated and sending out replies through weekends, but I don't know which others by name.
  10. Someone earlier mentioned Leadership, Policy and Politics... I applied to that one as well, and I'm still waiting to hear. Columbia TC is now the only school not to have told me anything, other than "we'll be a little longer than expected."
  11. Hi DontUse - My top choice to be in New York City, given some personal and professional motives. Between NYU and Columbia it comes down to money... so here's hoping for that end of things... but I'm excited! Thanks for asking, and you got into some good schools, so I hope you have had some ones to get you excited too.
  12. Well, in response to an inquiry email I sent to the head of my program yesterday, I heard I got in, unofficially...there's still hope!
  13. I have a bit of an opposite story... My boyfriend and I attended college together in Maine, and I had a mini-crush on him in between all my other boyfriends/dates, and yet we didn't get to know each other until senior year, when we both wrote honors theses under the same advisor. Even then, we still didn't get involved until AFTER graduation - just before I moved out to Missouri and he moved to DC. We couldn't really last given the distance. A year later, I was moving back to Maine, and he was moving to New York City. We met up once (both of us were seeing others, and it was "just as friends") and realized we had to be together. We each broke up with our s/o's, said "fuck distance," and started dating anyway. Six hours apart from each other, we have been dating for a year and a half now. And finally, I'm ready to leave Maine. I wouldn't want to just straight up move FOR my boyfriend, because I've got aspirations, so does he, and that would put a lot of pressure on us. But I've applied to grad schools -four of them. Two are in New York. And so, although I got into two top schools, I am STILL waiting impatiently because the two schools in New York are the two who have yet to reply. After 2 years, I'm ready to FINALLY live in the same city as my boyfriend. Can't the acceptance gods help me out a little bit, after all this time?
  14. Well, I called NYU Steinhardt today and manipulated them a bit. I said "Hi. When I called yesterday, they said a decision was made about my application [not quite true]. I have been having mail problems lately [not quite true] and was wondering if you could tell me the date that my decision was mailed." She informed me that mine was put in the pile to be mailed on Friday and thus was sent in Friday's or Monday's mail. I haven't received it yet, so I am guessing that it was sent out Monday, but at least that gives me a time frame...
  15. Any other impatient types like myself hoping against hope that, for the special occasion of notifying you, they are working on a Saturday to get out those personalized emails? I can dream, can't I? I was curious if anyone has heard (other than via snail mail, which could have been sent at any time) on a Saturday or, less likely, Sunday. Emails, phone calls, website notifications? I am looking to justify my perpetual log-ins. =) Also wondering: anyone get a package/acceptance/rejection from another kind of mail service besides US Postal Service (UPS/FedEx/DHL/etc)? Signed, Helplessly Hoping
  16. I got into one, too, a top-tier one for English/writing etc. I'm a teacher, so the summer thing makes a lot of sense, but BOY does 4 years sound like a long time... I know your indecision well, considering that I also applied to very different programs at year-long schools and am waiting impatiently.
  17. I am still waiting on almost all my schools. I got into one program over a month ago, but it's a summers-only program and I really want to be at a year-long one, so I'm still waiting on tenterhooks. NYU, Columbia, Harvard...what's with the delay?! =)
  18. I applied to the Educational Leadership, Politics and Advocacy program at NYU Steinhardt, and I'm desperately waiting. I got an email from the program director on Wednesday with a question about my application, and she said that she was just giving it an in depth look... so something tells me it might be a couple of days still. However, I have a friend who applied to another Steinhardt program who heard yesterday. Anyone else from that program hear yet? Also, for those of you who have heard from Steinhardt: how did you find out? Email, snail mail?
