sarahnyc Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 I am a Chemical Engineering student planning to get my PhD. I am trying to decide between a fully funded PhD program at City College (CCNY) and a non-funded masters program at Columbia. After completing my masters program at Columbia, I would apply to their PhD program. Which would you choose? Help!
tarrman Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 No sense in taking the unfunded offer and having to apply again. CCNY all the way!
sarahnyc Posted March 18, 2013 Author Posted March 18, 2013 I should probably also add that Columbia is my dream school... and I currently live in Columbia housing with my boyfriend who is a law student there. That being said, it's a lot of money!
juilletmercredi Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 If you are 100% sure that you want the PhD after you finish (and are not entertaining the idea of maybe leaving after the MS), then I would take the funded PhD offer. The only reason I wouldn't is if the CUNY program is low-ranked or graduates have problems finding jobs.
