nd2013 Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 How do I decide between such similar but distinct programs? Some schools offer one or the other, while other schools offer both degrees. My particular situation: of the top programs I got into, I am currently deciding between three - NYU Wagner (MPA; full funding for two years); Columbia SIPA (MIA; $10k scholarship); UC Berkeley (MPP; no money). It's worth it to mention that I also plan on applying to business school, preferably by doing a 3-year joint degree. I have to admit that Columbia has the greatest allure for me at this point, because of all of the international programs that they offer. But NYU (both Wagner and business school) is often ranked in the top tier and it would be free. And then of course Berkeley is ranked #1 in U.S. News. I'm going to visit all three of them, and hopefully that will help with my final decision. But any guidance or insight would be welcome. Thank you!

jkabo Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 I'm impressed that you got full funding from NYU; I had heard that they don't give much. I didn't apply there, but I went to an information session, and they stressed the emphasis they put on teamwork. First there's the mandatory two-day student retreat, and then even the capstone project is done as a team. So fit would be really important there, as well as your affinity for teamwork.
