Hunter MPH . . . unfortunately I was out of town for the orientation in May and I didn't get to meet any fellow students.
  2. I've got a colleague who is mad at me for not demanding full funding from Columbia SPH and then taking out a $50,000 loan to cover living expenses. I try to explain that it's hard to pay the mortgage as it is and he says, "I don't care!" . . . I guess that's what you get for talking to people.
  3. I'm impressed that you got full funding from NYU; I had heard that they don't give much. I didn't apply there, but I went to an information session, and they stressed the emphasis they put on teamwork. First there's the mandatory two-day student retreat, and then even the capstone project is done as a team. So fit would be really important there, as well as your affinity for teamwork.
  4. I'm 48, with practically no public health experience, and I got accepted into two good public health programs. It probably depends on the program, but I think it's a field that a lot of people go into a little later in life. Good luck!
  5. It depends when your friend applied. I applied by the Dec. 1 preferred deadline and got a response Feb. 22. I would be expect more decisions in March--most people have to make their commitment somewhere in April.
  6. I applied by Dec. 1 & got a response Feb. 22.
  7. Before I give up . . . I was accepted to Columbia SPH, which was tremendously validating, but the 25% scholarship doesn't make it possible to go. It's a full-time program, so I would have to give up my income for at least several months; I can't afford to pay much tuition on top of that. As an older student, I'm not willing to take out a huge loan that I couldn't even pay off before retirement. I've been looking for outside scholarships since October, but I can never find anything I qualify for. A coworker is urging me to make a personal appeal for more funding, but even if they raised it to 50%, I couldn't do it. Does anyone have any advice? Am I overlooking any great ideas that might still give me a chance at attending? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
  8. I'm 48; I started my undergrad at 44. I feel like I should be twice as smart as everyone else, but it doesn't really work that way . . .
  9. I just got an email from "PH Admit" (although I found the school name in the header) with the subject line MSPH Admission Decision Notification and the text "Please see the attached PDF File." Nothing is attached. This is probably a message that wasn't even supposed to go out, but it's a bit cruel on Friday afternoon.
