bar_scene_gambler
I'm going to be applying to grad school in the next few semesters, and I was wondering what impact (relevant) extracurriculars have on my application. So far I've presented at 3 conferences, published a paper in a peer-reviewed journal, am starting a chapter of Phi Sigma Tau at my school (I'll probably be president or vp of the chapter), and have been Apprentice Teaching under one of my professors for a philosophy course. How much of an impact does this have on my chances for admission, if any, and should I continue trying to pursue further extracurriculars if they do have an impact? bakedalaska
A little, but not as much as writing sample, GPA, letter writers & pedigree, etc. On a par with GRE, say.
bar_scene_gambler
Well, if it's on par with the GRE it's something. I'm just trying to figure out if it's worth continuing. Do you mind if I ask you about your info (GPA, GRE, etc.)? I'm thinking of applying to Toronto, and I've been looking for someone who has been accepted to compare credentials with. bakedalaska
My admission to Toronto is explained by the fact that I have an MA from there, with strong letters from senior Toronto faculty, and I won the departmental essay competition. I don't think I would have been admitted without these factors.
