alicer90 Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 Hi everyone, I'm looking for participants for my MSc research project on attitudes towards climate change. It only takes 5 minutes to complete, and (as well as helping out a desperate student and contributing to really valuable research) there is the chance to win a £50 voucher! So if you have 5 minutes and want to do a good deed for the day, please click here: http://people.exeter.ac.uk/ar319/Rotate/index.php Thanks! Alice
fuzzylogician Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 One of the basic requirements of running experiments includes identifying yourself as a researcher. I don't understand how you were able to get IRB approval to run this survey without this component. I'd be happy to fill out your survey once you properly identify yourself.
alicer90 Posted April 5, 2013 Author Posted April 5, 2013 Hi there, I'm not quite sure what you mean about identifying myself as a researcher. As stated in my post, I am a Masters student completing my research project. For further information, I am from the University of Exeter, School of Psychology. Regarding approval, it clearly states in the debrief that "This study has been reviewed and approved by the School of Psychology Ethics Review Board" [university of Exeter] and the contact details of both my supervisor and the chair of the ethics committee are given should anyone have any problems regarding the study. When submitting an application, one has to give exact details of the methodology to be used, and this method (using forums, twitter and general social media) was approved. The questionnaire itself was also, obviously, approved. It was a track A application, meaning there is very little risk of harm coming to participants from completing this questionnaire! (phew! ) I hope that reassures you! If you are not reassured, please don't feel obliged to fill it out; though I can guarantee it is an excellent 5 minute procrastination! Thanks, Alice
zabius Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 I've filled it out. Good luck with your project! :-)
fuzzylogician Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 Glad to hear your study is approved, I just wish the contact information and the informed consent would be given up front, not at the very end. Those things should come first, not last. But I suppose if this was approved by your university's IRB board then my problem is with them, not your study, so I'll be happy to help with your survey!
PsychGirl1 Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 Agreed- consent form should be the very first thing fter the first page.
