papaul Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 Hi, I am planning to go MS in Canada (fall 2014) and if anyone here can evaluate my chances it will be very helpful. I'm an international student but i have been working for the past 5 years and not sure how that will reflect on my profile which is intended for research. GPA - 8.67/10 (highest 9.4) GRE - 167 (Q), 159 (V) 4.5 (AWA) Work exp - Last 2.5 years in Oracle India and prior to that I was in Cognizant Technology Solutions Papers - None Shortlisted universities:- 1) UofT 2) UBC 3) Waterloo Thanks for your time! Best Regards.
papaul Posted April 10, 2013 Author Posted April 10, 2013 I would like take up Database (primarily datamining) or Machine language. Wanted to try out the Introductory courses before deciding on it.
SANDIEGO Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 That's a pretty good profile for MS in Canada IMO, I'd say you have a decent shot for the listed universities. Those are all among the best CS schools in Canada, so I hope you have a few backup universities as well..
papaul Posted April 10, 2013 Author Posted April 10, 2013 Thanks for response Actually i did not want to pick any univ beyond the top 5. So if you suggest a couple more that are fairly well-ranked and can be considered "safe", it would be very helpful!. Best Regards.

You should apply to a couple more universities to be on the safe side. Admission is very competitive and could be somewhat random nowadays. Some other universities in Canada that you should check out: Simon Fraser University, University of Alberta, York University, McGill.
papaul Posted April 13, 2013 Author Posted April 13, 2013 Thank you compiler_guy! i'll check out their sites. I see almost all of them have Women in CS wing, but they barely seem to have any new grad students and even lesser international students Is that the impossible to make the cut?
