Does anyone know if it's possible to get second-round funding even if we didn't get ANY funding in the first round? I only see people getting ADDITIONAL aid.

If it's possible, do you think that if I already accepted the admission offer, I'd be less likely to get second-round funding than candidates who have not yet accepted their offer?

Thanks!

Yes, it is always worth a try. I asked 3 schools for more/initial funding. The two that had already offered me some, offered more. The one that I did not get initial funding from eventually offered me some. I had attended admitted students' day (for a very small program) and made some connections with staff and two faculty members. I emailed the staff/person who would be in charge of speaking with the admissions committee along with the two professors who were pulling for me to attend. I realize that profs dont tend to have much pull, but it is always worth a try! As it turned out, they both mentioned something to the admissions committee and in less than 24 hours I received funding where there was previously none.

Thank you, that's definitely encouraging. I'll try!

I was just informed by my first choice school (who gave me no funding in the first round) that they are now able to exceed my highest funding offer from other programs (!!!)  Shocked and ecstatic!

Let my example show, it pays to be persistent -- don't give up folks!

I received funding earlier this week from a school that had initially offered none. Granted, their acceptance letter was very clear about my being in the pool to be considered for second round funding. I haven't tried to ask other schools to match yet.

I got an email today from the director of admissions at Elliott, saying that all of their fellowships have been accepted so they are not able to offer me one.

I just got an email from SIPA on Friday offering me a first year only, $15K fellowship. I was definitely not expecting anything from SIPA, and had written that school off...to the point that I already paid my deposit at Fletcher, but now I'm on the fence again!

I just got an offer for 10k€ from SAIS Bologna, I am turning it down because it is definetely not the program for me but they definetely have extra funds now!

That sucks. I just got an email from them offering a High Achiever Fellowship, but I'm still turning it down. Got my sights set on Fletcher.

I knew they had not given all their fellowships yet! Well that sucks. But congrats!

I just received more funding from SAIS.  What an unexpected and happy surprise!  I'm over the moon!!

And I have no shame admitting that I did a little dance around my office just now ;)

Good luck everyone.  I hope more of us get some unexpected good news!

Was this after you had already accepted? How much had you received initially, if you don't mind my asking?

ETA: Congratulations, by the way!

Hey FlyingJF, would you mind PMing me also? I had tried to talk to SAIS about funding as well and would be curious to know how things played out in your case.

It'd be much appreciated, cheers!

Thanks huerita!  Yes it was after I had already accepted.  I'll PM you more details.

Hey, FlyingJF

Would you mind if you can PM me for more details? I am also in the struggling about the funding.
