ldspsych Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 Hello, I’m new so forgive me if I’m doing this wrong. I just have a few questions about PsyD programs in general and specifically about Nova Southeastern PsyD. Is anyone a student there? I came across the program and I’m really interested in it. A little about myself, I have a Ba in Psychology with a 3.9 GPA, graduated with honors from a very respectable university in Mexico. I also have a masters in Psychoanalysis from a Mexican school affiliated with the International Psychoanalytic Association, with a 4.0 GPA. I worked for 3 years in my own private practice. I also have several publications in magazines, have been invited to a few radio shows and television shows as well. I don’t really have any research experience because that’s not really the emphasis of where I studied. Basically I just want to know if I have a chance at being accepted (I applied to a counseling PsyD last year but when I went to the interviews I decided that their approach wasn’t for me, so I don’t want this to happen again). I’d like to know if anyone knows about Nova, how’s the school? teachers? How much research is involved? What type of therapy do they teach? Systemic? Brief Therapy? Etc... Thanks!
PsychGirl1 Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 Why don't you ask them if you can speak to some current students over email or phone?
Psykir Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Attention they DO NOT have any serious financial aid
gatorgrad Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 Agreed with Psykir. I live in the area, and don't plan on applying to Nova because of the lack of funding. There's even a POI there with research interests incredibly in sync with mine, but I won't go and rack up hundreds of thousands in debt for a degree I can get paid to complete somewhere else. It's a wonderful program IF you have the money to pay for it outright and not rack up loans.
Psykir Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 Neither did I. I had here a POI, however........ Actually PsyD. programs are rarely well-paid (contrary to PhD)
