  1. clinicalpsychphd20 Thanks! I'll check
  2. Alejandro Morales Pomona U Roger L. Worthington U of Missoury
  3. Pals - I've been accepted to the MA Clinical & Community psy. program to the Point Park University. Little college - but quite good program with an emphasis on the Existentialism and Humanistic Psychology and with quite cool dean. The problem is - they give only 3000$ per year stipend. Now they are looking for the assistantship opportunities - but I also am not sitting idly - trying to search finances. So if someone can suggest some sources (I am an international student - that's a real problem) - I'll be more than happy!
  4. I should add Pacific is well known for dealing with humanistic and transpersonal paradigm - quite rare things!
  5. It's usual for PsyD programs - more practice-oriented - larger classes, less researches. It is so called Vail model
  6. Well officially you have time till 15 of April (at most of the Schools). I thing they understand that there is kind a 'tradition' to apply more than the one program
  7. That is easier but I'm worrying cause my degree is 5 years in a row degree - it can be considered as basic psychology BS + MA in counseling psy (if they will scrutinize my transcript). Something like changing priority - I'll explain it as a wish to strengthen my research skills e.t.c.
  8. Pals I'm looking forward to apply to the clinical doctorate. But as I do have Russian degree from not very well known univ I was not successful - so I'm looking forward to apply to the W&M MA program - experimental program but with the POI (who even has papers matches my topic). The problem is - my original degree is equal (wes-evaluated) as an MA in counseling psy. Can they automatically decline me?
  9. Anyone heard anything from the Arizona State Univ. Counseling Psy PhD program?
  10. Pal, that's important to know that it is only about FOrdham COUNSELING not CLINICAL PhD program (as far as I know). I think it's completely normal to ask about skype interview.
  11. That's an absolutely normal practice =) Go on. And good luck
  12. That's me and yep I e-mailed first. It's not a clear rejection - I'm not in the interviewee list....that's it
  13. I'd say - the problem is they lay on the verbal GRE. Even reading loads of psych articles (as I'm working as a lecturer now, so - I have to read) have nothing in common with preparing to the GRE verbal - quite different vocab. High TOEFL doesn't help. And spmetimes it is hard to move through the very first shift when they sometimes do not even read your papers - just sort you out checking your GPA/GRE
  14. Yep - lottery. When reading some articles by actual doctoral students I think - I'm not worse.......mmmm GPA 3.88....problem is GRE? =((( HEck
  15. Haha.....It weighed more then 5 yrs of experience.....and some articles published
  16. Depends on how to persuade recommenders. Carefully choose them. And choose the strategy - someone need to pray for some one needed to be kicked
  17. I WOULD try especially assuming that that is the only (am I right) chance given to you now. I'd take a risk as she is interested particularly at you - so means your profile have smth persuaded her to work with you even though you're not competitive blah blah blah...... I'd give it a try
  18. Did you? =( I didn't.........Probably I'm rejected =((((((
  19. Exactly. Let's see - I'm a teaching fellow (lecturer) and an editor. Term starts exactly the week of 10'th - so it means I'll have to find an excuse to postpone my classes. Then - my official salary is around 15000 monthly (around 500$) + Editorial honorariums around 13000 (400$) once in two months (but not regularly due to Journal financial difficulties) plus some unofficial irregular money like private clients/translations/web-sites/playback-theater performances........... So the cheapest tickets are around 17000 (say, 400$) and that's the cheapest - the median is around 21000 (700$) plus visa is around 160$ plus accommodation + food + + + ............ AND to sum up - that would be an unreliable investment. Hehehe........spend more than monthly income on something..........One week to see NY and die =) I give it up..........
  20. I haven't applyed to that particular programs. And ALL programs I've been interviewed before did it through skype (UFL, Duquesne). And it IS normal practice, you know. Or to reimburse expenses. I couldn't even think of it - and the first thegradcafe pals reaction proved - it's quite unusual (you know - first reaction is the most valid
  21. Pals...thanks for your support. I feel REALLY better especially understanding (by your reaction) that this situation is unusual and not quite normal for the US programs. It's my third and final year of trying. If will not be successful, I'll stop trying and just continue my job...probably once obtain Russian one PhD (here you can defend a dissertation without going to school - just pass 3 exams and go through defense). Finally I still have 5 shots. BTW yeah that's Fordham Counseling program. The thing is - this program was recommended to me by one good professional in the field. So sad ((((
  22. The story has its continuation. Ir seems like they are not adequate at all =(
  23. GRE general really stinks (sorry) but it's not the same for GRE subject. I'd say whether or not you are about to finish MA/MS you should take it. It's also useful to somehow compensate your GPA (counseling programs are quite competitive - so you need smth around 3.7- 3.8 to feel somewhat safe). And remember Doctorates are sciency - means you must have an idea bout your research interests, not only practical ones..otherwise I'd recommend Psy.D. programs - the problem is - they are rarely sponsored - you'll have to pay
  24. Be aware, that it is often a GPA cut-off 3-3.5 I'd recommend you to finish Master program first - then you'll really understand if it worth to visit Doctorate
  25. I didn't say this But I'm a pessimist generally (yes, I'm a psychologist =)) ) Seriously I do not lay on happy end. Now I got 1 interview invitation. That's all YET. I'll just wait
