Hello everyone!

I do not have a background in speech pathology.  It seems, I need to  complete 25 supervised observation hours under a SLP, before I can start in Fall semester for the MS program. I live in Norwood (Massachusetts), where can I complete these hours?I would really appreciate your help.

Most of the places where I live are fine with you just calling up to observe.  Call the clinics, schools, or wherever you can get a # for.  Hospitals are harder in most areas I believe, since they don't want a lot of "randoms" cycling through there.  But, you should be able to find clinics and places like that who are willing to have an observer!

Are you sure that you can't get those observation hours when your grad program begins?

I think it varies from program to program...it was surprising for me as well but yes it is written that students would need to have 25 observation hours before they start their program

I think they like you to have your observation hours completed prior school starting because they should be done before first clinical placement.  With my program clinical placement starts right away.  I found that the ASHA web site also helps you to search for ASHA certified SLP's in your area and it also states where they work.  Good luck!

I have to get my 25 hours done before the fall or else my admission is automatically deferred to next fall. :-(. I am calling a local rehab center that serves a variety of populations, as well as the hospital. Also hoping to observe at a SNF but not holding out hope to get all of that done before July 15th. I won't be able to do the hours until after workdays end in June, so my time is limited as my hours log has to be turned in by July 15th. I teach full time now, and will get two to four hours with the school SLP between now and June, too.

Do either of you live near a University with an SLP program? I know (at least here) that clinic is offered over the summer, and they love observers!
