burrahobbit Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 I'm sure there are hundreds of posts similar to this one. I am ABD and really doing my best to finish up this dissertation. I feel myself beginning to wonder about a permanent academic life, though. I'm certain these feeling originate in my general burnout, but I have begun to wonder, are there any careers for someone with a philosophy PhD that aren't in academia? I mention "writing" in my topic line because that's something I feel comfortable with and enjoy a great deal (I also write creatively). I'm just curious, has anyone turned a philosophy PhD into a non-academic writing career? Thanks, burrahobbit
juilletmercredi Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 Try versatilephd.com! It's a website that's especially tailored for people in the humanities and social sciences who want non-academic careers. There are tons of people on the forums there who have PhDs in humanities fields who have moved into non-academic careers, and every so often they have career panels where the mods invite panelists in different career fields to speak about how they got into their fields. Very very useful resource! Queen of Kale 1
