blackadder71990 Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Hi, I am international applicant from India and wanted to apply to the top 10-15 MS ECE programs. I have a 3.6 GPA and a bunch of projects under my belt. Will the low quant score of 165 affect my chances ? I couldn't give my best on the test day and inadvertently committed calculation errors, I guess. To add to my misery, slots for a retake are over. Would be great if you could provide some insights.
Monochrome Spring Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 GRE scores for top universities GRE scores for engineering programs GRE score percentiles You're still above 90th percentile, so you're competitive. And GRE scores are not the most important part of your application. GRE scores are used primarily for weeding out lower-end students and for fellowship ranking (that I know of). You should be fine, as long as the rest of your application is also strong. Cryolite, C&C and AdilB990 3
AdilB990 Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Blackadder, in my opinion, you have no reason to think about a retake. Your GPA and your scores are really good! And I'm assuming the projects you've done are relevant to your prospective MS programs. Now, as Monochrome has mentioned above, GRE isn't going to make or break your chances as your Quantitative score is above the 90th percentile. If u still feel a little nervous or unconvinced, check out the respective program websites for average GRE scores for those admitted in previous seasons (If they're not available on the website, mail them). Focus on writing an exceptional SoP, complemented with strong LoR's, and you have a great chance of getting into a top school. Best of luck! Arezoo 1
