MikaLi Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 hi guys, I’m working on my PhD application, and wonder weather my resume should include selected papers and seminars from both my bachelor’s and master’s studies. I think it will perfectly reflect my research interests and experience. but I’m not sure if it’s acceptable…? Thanks!
MikaLi Posted August 19, 2013 Author Posted August 19, 2013 oooppss... sorry, I meant whether not weather...
Monochrome Spring Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 You should look into what a curriculum vita looks like, as this is what you'll most likely use as a graduate student. On a CV, you can list your publications and conferences. You should include them in your CV for applications, as well. **You can use the edit button on your post to fix grammatical errors next time. : )
MsDarjeeling Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 I agree that a cv is probably a better fit for your applications. You can search the web for cv's of people in your field to get ideas for layout and content. The schools you intend to apply to may post the cv's of the professors and grad students in your field and those would also help you. If you're still in school the career center or your adviser might be able to assist you as well.
Borden Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 CAA's career building pages also have CV layouts broken down into different fields of the arts, so for academics, museum professionals, artists, etc, with recommendations on how to tailor it to your experience levels.
Mississippi Snow Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 This is not so relevant to the subject, but, for future reference, it is spelled résumé. I say this, because I see it spelled wrong nearly every day, and I think it could become of significance--if spelled properly-- in an application as it stands out. poliscar and Borden 2
Borden Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 (edited) This is not so relevant to the subject, but, for future reference, it is spelled résumé. I say this, because I see it spelled wrong nearly every day, and I think it could become of significance--if spelled properly-- in an application as it stands out. There's actually no consensus on this, except that resumé is technically incorrect and resume is the preferred American spelling. After a few minutes of googling, the general sense on job hunt websites is that résumé is fussy and pretentious, and a sign of "fastidious overcorrectness." I would say the safest bet is to spell it however the school you're applying for is spelling it. Edited August 22, 2013 by Borden condivi, poliscar and MsDarjeeling 3
condivi Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 In any case, a resume (or résumé) is invariably called a CV in academia, so not worth worrying too much about it here poliscar, Borden and Ellenoise 2 1
