Hey all, I'm so grateful for this forum, lots of very helpful information.

I'm curious about the kind of papers that are required in grad school, specifically in MSW programs.  How much, how often, how awful (lol), etc.  What can you tell me?  That's probably one of the things I dread the most.

Well that sure does give me hope, because I do want training for a job and have no interest at all in research :)  Thanks!

I think it is also program dependent. I go to a school where the research class is pretty intensive. But it's only one class that's required (I'm advanced standing so I'm not sure about the 2 year program). But on that note, all papers are pretty intensive. I'd say we (so far) average 3 intensive papers per class, per semester.

I'm not in an MSW program, but my school has a few counseling programs to lead to an MFT or LPC.  The students I've talked to express that developing applied skills is more important, but there are still papers to do.  In one class you might see anywhere from 2-4 response papers which are more relaxed because its opinion driven.  Then there are usually 2 larger papers (think midterm and final) and they could be research based, program development based, or case analysis'.

I want to mention that the amount of homework depends on specialization. Macro specializations (community organization, organizational development, and policy and evaluation) tend to require more research papers and case analysis papers than clinical specializations.

Great since I'm interested in clinical lol. Thanks for all the input!
