Hey everyone, I just wanted your opinion because I'm not sure if should retake the GRE. I'm applying to PsyD at George Washington U, Yeshiva and Nova Southeastern.

I have a 3.9 GPA in BA in Psychology

4.0 GPA in Masters in Psychoanalysis

Both from Mexico

I have about 15 publications on magazines and newspapers and get asked to appear on radio often. All of these publications are mostly based on psychoanalytic theory

I have theoretical research experience for all of the above mentioned publications.

I'm taking the Psych GRE in october.

GRE scores:

Quant: 148

Verbal: 154

AW: don't know yet

I took it last year and I actually improved 4 points on each section.

If I take it again if would have to be in november and I'm not sure if the scores would arrive on time for the december 1st deadline.

I also have one more question, what's and adequate format to send my cv?

Thanks again and have a great week!

The PsyD programs wont much care about your type of publication.  It is interesting, but when we refer to "publications," we're talking about in peer-reviewed academic journals.

BUT that's neither here nor there, because PsyD's aren't generally research focused.

Considerations though:

GWU - You're stats are definitely competitive for GW; however, it is VERY expensive to attend and DC is one of the costliest cities in the US (rent for a one bedroom can get upwards of $1500-2500/month).  It's apa match rate is also fairly low, with just 47% attaining an spa accredited internship.  Not sure about in Mexico, but in several US states and the US military, that precludes licensure.

Yeshiva - Ferkauf requires 70th percentile scores, check on what your scores bring you to.  They're also pricey (what PsyD isn't?), but their match rate is impressive (~92%); they definitely are, IMHO, one of the top 5 PsyDs.

Nova - You will get into nova, but if you heed any piece of advice anyone gives you throughout the pocess: DO NOT GO HERE.  Their match rate is atrocious, their reputation is very negative, their cohort is very large, their faculty/staff/facilities are very unsupportive (just loo them up in some other forums), and their known for inflating the cost of their degrees by holding up people's dissertations (at least in the PhD).  It is generally regarded as being just short of a diploma mill.

You're stats are fairly good, look up all the acred. programs and see where else might interest you.  Take a peek at Denver, Baylor, Rutgers, and Loyola Maryland.

This website, http://psychologygradschool.weebly.com/choosing-a-program---c-20.html, has invaluable information about applying and evaluating school.  Someone who was in our position wrote it!

Good Luck!

Thank you so much for your input! I did not know all of what you said about Nova! I'm impressed! I'm also a little confused as to what matching internships mean? There are no internships in Mexico so this is new to me.

The link you gave looks pretty useful so thanks again!

I don't really have a lot more options because of my husband, he's also looking into graduate schools (not psychology) and his options are way limited, so basically it's between Miami, DC and New York... but thanks anyway

Have a great day!

Hello everyone! Finally done with the GRE, and am so excited to be done!

I have read that for Counseling Psych Ph.D programs, the GRE score is mainly to get past the initial phase of the review process, but won't hold too much weight in admissions decisions. Scores today:

V-162

Q-157

Any reason for concern? I'm pretty happy with these scores, though I know I could have done better. Do these scores appear to be good enough to get them to open my application and read all my other accomplishments and experience?

Thanks,

SP30
