daisydukes Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 Did any of you take a year off before starting grad school? If so, do you believe that it was a wise choice for you? Suggestions, comments, please
JSM040704 Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 I am sorta taking a year long break. I am not taking any classes. My best advice continue building your CV. I don't know about you, but I am already feeling like something is missing without classes. Right now, I am working on publication and conference-ing. Now, my situation could be different because I earned my MA in Socs and I am taking a year off before my PhD.
gilbertrollins Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 I have a friend taking a year off right now with a deferred offer, and he really misses academia. Your mileage may vary.
jacib Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 I took three years off. I wouldn't have been ready for school straight out, and it gave me time to really think about what I wanted to do in graduate school.
Maleficent999 Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 I'm taking this year off to be with my family before leaving for 5 years. I also wanted to make sure I miss school as much as I thought I might (I DO!).
emmm Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 I took 20 years off between undergrad and grad...mostly spent that time at home with kids (though there was some school in there also).
spunky Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 (edited) i thought i was gonna take a year off before starting gradschool... ... truth is i ended up enrolling on a 2nd bachelors degree while i waited for my applications to be processed. couldn't live without academia for more than 4 months Edited September 24, 2013 by spunky
