WhiteSage Posted November 1, 2013 Posted November 1, 2013 Hello, I have settled for integrating history and anthropology, and have found a small number of programs. However, I would like to know if there are more people out there interested in the same or who are already working on their combined PhDs. I have not decided a specific focus, though I'm interested in everything, particularly studying the decline of societies in the historical record. I do not expect to find a specific program with a professor who so happens to be interested in the same. Any input? Sage
bioarch_fan Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 There are plenty of historical archaeology and anthropology programs out there. I'm sure you can find one that has professors that do research in your specific area of interest. All it takes is time to sit down and do a little research. That's why I've been doing research on grad schools for the past 8 months, and I don't apply until next Fall. I just want to make sure I have my schools picked out ahead of time and early enough to talk to professors. Best thing you can do is when you find a school that interests you, write the professors about your research interests and see what they say. If that's not what they're interested in they might be able to direct you to another professor that is interested in it.
eriatarka Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 I'm interested in historical archaeology. I'm applying to the PhD in Anthropology & History at Michigan. Have you looked into it?
AKCarlton Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Hi Sage, I'm in the same position as you and it's kind of a comforting relief. I love history and archaeology, was ecstatic that there was such a field out there for it. I applied to four programs. This is my first time applying to grad school. I made contact with three professors...so 3/4 programs...and had good conversations with each that looked promising. In my SOP I made sure to let them know of my areas of interest and how I felt their program would really allow me to find my specific niche because again, I love history, ALL OF IT, so it's hard to just pick one area. So we shall see. Best of luck to you!
