applying to phd in clinical psych with an MA in counselling psychology

Is anyone out there applying to the phd program in clinical psych with an MA in counselling psych? I heard that having an MA in counselling is not really in your favour, if anything, it might make the admission to the clinical psych that much harder. Does anyone know if this is true? any other information is appreciated. I don't know if this kind of transition is harder, but I do think you'll have to use your SOP to indicate that you understand the difference between counseling and clinical and highlight your research training.  Also explain why you're making this transition in addition to how you're prepared.
