Princolum
Hello everyone! I have a plan to apply to US universities. because of my language abilities (I'm fluent in Farsi, Turkish, Arabic, Tajiki, and Azerbaijani) I'm looking for a university with a rich tradition in the middle east or Caucasus and central Asia studies. I know that some universities such as Chicago, Michigan, and Harvard have a great tradition in that field of study, however, because of my low GRE score, I can't apply to these universities. So, is there any political science programs which give a priority to language abilities?
Penelope Higgins
Departments don't give a priority to language abilities. Languages are, for political science, nothing more than a tool that you need to do certain kinds of research. They can help your application by demonstrating your preparation for research, but they won't substitute for the other required components of the application package. Penelope Higgins
Language skills may be seen, in some departments, as a necessary condition for admission. But nobody is going to see language skills as a strength that compensates for weaknesses in other parts of the application. In that sense, languages do not play a role in the admissions process. tpop
