What's everyone's take on Rutgers? How do other people see it outside of New Jersey? The world? I've always heard people are really impressed with a Rutgers degree, but as an in-stater from Jersey and an alum, we always rag on Rutgers.

It depends on what program you get your degree from, surely. I hear that its English & Philosophy Departments are well-respected in the USA. People I've talked to in Europe (i) recognise the name (ii) have said "That's a good school".

Well at least for my area (Psychology), when I told people that I was considering Rutgers at the beginning of my search the typical response from people was "Wow! they have a really good Psych program!" I do have family that went to Rutgers and they rag on it too haha.

I know Pysch, Philiosophy (I'm a philosophy minor) and even their business school are top notch. I just ALWAYS hear people ripping on it. Always interesting to hear that often times people outside of NJ are in awe when you say you went there haha

Rutgers New Brunswick is well regarded in CS.

I've never heard anyone rip on Rutgers and I am from Jersey. Now if you went to Willie P I may laugh.

Rutgers has a decent reputation in History. not U Michigan or Ivy League, but pretty high nonetheless.
