bonybear Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 I've skimmed through a bunch of these threads and haven't seen much talk of the Gillings School of Public Health at UNC. Their Health Behavior program is my top choice, but I'm not really sure what my chances are of getting in, or when I'll even find out. They're the number two top PH program in the country so I'm really suprirsed that I haven't heard more about that school. So who else applied? Has anyone else heard back yet?
iphi Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 There are plenty of results inth Results Search: http://www.thegradcafe.com/survey/index.php?q=public+health+unc
vibs Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 (edited) Hi bonybear, I have applied to MPH in Epidemiology at UNC Gillings SPH. My chances seem thin though vowing to its reputation and strong applicants they recieve. Its a dream to be accepted in Gillings school. Lets hope for the best. Keep us updated and good luck. Kayla123 Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 I'll warn you right now Gillings' admissions department was a mess last year. I called their department multiple times, trying to find something out, and was always told the answer was coming "soon." I basically gave up on them and went to Hopkins. Started getting calls in May (after most schools require an admission decision from you), offering research and what not. Even THEN, they still couldn't tell me what my official status was! Anyway, it's a great school, and is spoken of very highly here--a lot of students and professors have colleagues at gillings, or went there themselves for a previous degree. Just wanted to warn you that the admissions dept was terrible. I hope they've straightened things out--don't stress too much if you don't hear anything; you could very likely have gotten in, but not be notified for awhile.
MadtownJacket Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 I don't expect to hear back from UNC until January, since I applied to their MHA program and they process those applications a little bit faster. I remember seeing that some people didn't hear back from the MPH program until about February. UNC is really good at evaluating their applicants as a whole, rather than just focusing on the numbers. It's also my dream of getting into the Gillings School, and it's my top choice of the schools I'm applying to. Best of luck!
eohare3404 Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 I applied to the MPH-RD program in the Nutrition dept at Gillings and have yet to hear. Has anyone else here heard back from any programs at Gillings for Fall 2014?
MadtownJacket Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Yes, MHA program. Got the decision two weeks ago.
GradSchooler Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Has anyone received funding info from UNC? I, like everyone else, am anxious to hear. Financial aid will be a top consideration for me.
sharkbait790 Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 I applied to the MS for Environmental Science and still haven't heard anything
SheKnowsNothing Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 Has anyone received funding info from UNC? I, like everyone else, am anxious to hear. Financial aid will be a top consideration for me. I received nothing. I email someone there and was pretty much told I was out of luch and that I have to pay out of pocket. Since that's no going to happen, I guess I wont be going then...
eohare3404 Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Does anyone know what the decision deadline is for students accepted to the UNC MPH/RD program? I am on the waitlist and it would be awesome to know how much longer I have to wait to hear the final decision! thanks
GradSchooler Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 Update: I heard from UNC about a fellowship offer this week (for doctoral students). This was something from the overall grad school at UNC, so each department may have another timeline for funding announcements. Just wanted to share that the overall UNC grad school merit awards have started to be announced. Good luck all! I'm wishing the best for everyone, especially because of how helpful everyone is here for each other!
neurogeno Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 I was accepted into the MPH program in Environmental Sciences last week
