AsiaPolicy
Curious if anyone plans to apply to the Lee Kuan Yew School at National University of Singapore. I've heard that they give a lot of financial aid. I'm considering the MPP programme for two years, and maybe one of the double-degree programmes with LSE or Columbia SIPA. If anyone knows anything more about the school, please share. I know one alumni, and he said the program is good particularly if you are interested in developing a network in Asia. More info would be appreciated, however.
k_angie
NUS as a university has a wonderful reputation. Not only that, the Lee Kuan Yew Schools is awesome. I have some friends studying there. I wanted to apply to the school but I can't given they need a four year undergraduate degree and I have three. Nonetheless, I would say if you have qualifications, do apply. And yes their financial aids are pretty generous too. Apart from this I don't know much. Anyway, but you already did knew that. :/ Also, I was strongly advised by not only by many academics but some professionals too, to not apply to LSE as the school is not as good as it used to be. Anyway, for more info on SIPA, I suggest you attend their online information session which is due in another one week. Check their website for details. Good luck. NPRjunkie
I hear Singapore is one of the most miserable places to live on the planet as a Westerner, and Kishore Mahbubani is an intellectual fraud who confuses evangelism for intellectualism and who has about as much qualifications/credentials as the emperor has new clothes. LSE ain't what it used to be. Dual-degrees in this field are really just one watered down degree. You finish the core requirements at one school, not having had the chance to have exposed yourself to the breadth of its resources/faculty or the city/environment you're in, and then you go to another and take easy electives and are often exempt from core requirements you simply didn't finish your first year. My advice: stick to one school.
AsiaPolicy
Okay, thanks for the tips. I'm actually in Singapore now. It's an easy place to live and easy to access the rest of Asia, which is what I want. Good to hear that your friends also had a positive experience here. I checked out the campus, and it's really nice. Great facilities and it seems they attract a lot of good speakers from what I saw in their upcoming events directory. Any other comments welcome, though - not sure if I should stay in Asia, or go elsewhere.

nandanroom
Yesterday I received an email from LKYSPP asking for my passport copy and reference letters to be completed by 31st Jan.
shrew
Aha. So did I! I think they are routine emails. 2 of my referees haven't yet uploaded and so my application is incomplete. I have to get in touch with them!

curiousekalavya
i made 5 more ...Chicago-Harris, Michigan-Ford, CMU-Heinz, Maryland and Georgetown. How abt u? Hey guys, I have also applied to the MPP program at LKY. You mentioned you weren't too happy with your essays, but if you have decent, relevant work ex, I guess you'll be fine. Do you have several years of work ex if you don't mind my asking?
nandanroom
I see a lot of us from India applying to LKY...btw they extended their deadline to 31st Jan....also did anyone of you here talk to any existing student? I wud like to know about career outcomes of their MPP grads as I don't see much information on their webpage Hey guys, I have also applied to the MPP program at LKY. You mentioned you weren't too happy with your essays, but if you have decent, relevant work ex, I guess you'll be fine. Do you have several years of work ex if you don't mind my asking? I think work-ex might be the weakest link in my application. I have just 1 yr of work ex (though at a decent place) and even this is not directly policy related..at best it tangentially concerns developmental sector.... shrew
I do have nearly 3 years of work ex with a cultural organisation, but I feel its not very relevant. But I have done a couple of internships which have been somewhat subject related. So fingers crossed. And what about your academic qualifications? While browsing, I came across a recent graduate who is a research assistant at the Hindu center for Public Policy. Apart from that, I haven't really found any information on career prospects/ outcomes.

shrew
Good luck to you It's the same with me! I hope my answers are convincing enough as to why I changed from my bachelors in accounting to a masters in IR and now to policy. Didn't they mention that today is the deadline and everything needs to be submitted? One of my referees..hes not very computer savvy and he has sent it to them by email. But they haven't confirmed receipt of the letter. I tried calling them, emails...but no response. Any idea what's happening? nandanroom
@shrew: ya seems they are not very prompt with replying on email....also it is so close to Chinese new year, i don't think anyone will now pick up ur call now...ur best bet is to call and check on tuesday.....as for references, i think it is better to get it done through the manner suggested by them as u can never be sure if ur emailed reference will actually get attached to ur overall admission dossier. Also i think they should be fine with a couple of days of delay as 1st and 2nd feb are weekends . Any processing should take place on 3rd or 4th only

nandanroom
@ all : One of my referees says that he has not received the email from LKY? Did any of you experience the same? Unfortunately their application portal does not even have a link to send a reminder email for reference.
AdamSmith123
Hi all, I also applied to the MPP program. Any of you know much about the quant test? And the sort of questions they ask in the interview? Fingers crossed to hear back from them soon
nandanroom
somewhere in this forum itself (some other thread) i had read about the quant test. I think it should be fairly basic.
