Dear Guys,

I have a problem

One of my recommenders is an old (don't deal with E-mails easily) an busy professor. So, he didn't send the LOR until now (Dec, 4) although the deadline of application was on Dec, 1. Can he send the LOR after the deadline? If yes, what is the maximum possible retardation??

Thanks in advance

Hi!

My friend faced the same problem. Though she mailed the university and told this. The university people had increased the deadline late by 5 days as they received many similar emails by other applicants.

I suggest you write to the admission people and then wait for their response. I hope it shouldn't be a problem.

Good luck

It should not be a problem and is actually not that rare for LORs to come in up to a week after the deadline. The deadline is really for your own submitted stuff. Definitely email the program to let them know, but when this happened to me, all of the programs basically said that as long as the LORs came in before the committee actually started the review process, it would be okay. And most committees don't start to review until mid January.

Apparently I am in the same boat :( could you please fill me in on if it is the same for electrical engineering admission committees? I am really freaking out

Maximum possible retardation varies by department. I know some allow 14 days to receive all supporting information, and some have Zero flexibility.

You should send a nice email to the department explaining your circumstances, and then send even a nicer email to your referee telling them to hurry the fuck up.
