levo99p Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 Hi guys, so there's info about me that wasn't highlighted elsewhere in my application (i submitted the app already) and was wondering if I can ask/have one of my recommenders to reflect that aspect in his letter? The info's not relevant to the work I did with him at all, it's more of personal information (circumstances I faced as an international student in undergrad that at least partially explains my not so stellar GPA and perhaps how I overcame some of difficulties) I'm sure he can be accommodating (and he knows me personally) but do you think adcom will find that okay/helpful? Would appreciate your help! Good luck w apps guys!
TakeMyCoffeeBlack Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 My references all offered to put things in that I couldn't fit elsewhere. If you're comfortable asking, then I see no problem.
Jungshin Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 (edited) I'd first determine whether this personal information is 100% crucial and beneficial to your application. Yes? then it'll sound better if it's coming from your referees... since if it comes from your own writing, you may (or may not) just sound like a whiner making excuses. I'm sure your referees will have no problem including this information for you anyway as long as both of you are on the same page. Edited December 12, 2013 by Jungshin
