sallysirius Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 I have received emails from four schools saying that my application was incomplete and I needed to send them official transcript/GRE report/etc (which I have record showing I did send them, weeks ago!!). Nevertheless, I sent them another copy but they received the files after deadline. So does it affect my application? The graduate office said it doesn't matter to them since they will route the materials to the department as soon as it's completed. But they don't know what the department would do. Anyone has any ideas if the department would find it a problem that some materials were late?
PsychGirl1 Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 Happened to me a few times. Just get everything there ASAP, it's all you can ask for! Most departments have a bit of a grace period for LORs and the official documents like the GRE scores and transcripts, especially if it goes through a main office before arriving at the department. Don't stress about it! You could also maybe try emailing the department (usually there is a contact or admin email listed), explain the issue, and ask if it's a problem. You could also always attach unofficial copies to the email if you are super anxious about it :-D
schoolpsycher Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 (edited) I'm having the same problem. Was emailed the day after the deadline that all 3 recommendations were missing and my transcripts (that I sent a month ago). Called them and they still said all of that stuff was missing, but after 5 CALLS to different offices that same day, they magically found both transcripts and 2 of the recommendations. Seriously so fed up and hoping this doesn't affect my application getting reviewed. Edited December 17, 2013 by schoolpsycher
iphi Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 This has happened to almost every school I applied to. Just tell them you already sent it and the date on which you sent it and they magically find the materials. It really sucks, but with so many people sending them things (and probably messing up - e.g. sending to the graduate school instead of the department and vice versa) the reality is that things get misplaced.
TakeruK Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 I had this happen at one school--they didn't receive my General GRE score report from ETS for some reason. Their solution was to get me to scan my unofficial examinee's report and they would use the scores on that to make their decision. It didn't seem to cause a problem since I got an offer shortly afterwards. They said that if I did choose to accept their offer, they will try again to find my score report and if they didn't, I might have to pay for another report from ETS so that they have it for their record before they could officially admit me. In the end, I didn't go there so I don't know if they would have been able to find it or not!
