Webbed_feets Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 (edited) I'm a third year Math major and I intend to apply to Statistics masters programs in the fall. I'm signed up for the second semester of my undergraduate Real Analysis class and I got assigned an infamously bad professor. He's very rude to students and has been know to fail up to half of his class. I know that I could do well enough in the class, but I'd really like to avoid taking his class. I want to take Abstract Algebra this semester and finish my Real Analysis class in the fall. This means that I'll be applying to graduate programs without having a grade for my second Real Analysis class. Will delaying Real Analysis II and not having it on my transcript hurt my chances at admission? I got an A- in the previous class and I have taken a few proof based classes. My last Analysis class covered up to Differentiation. Real Analysis II covers Differentiation, Integration, and very basic Measure Theory. Edited January 6, 2014 by Webbed_feets
cyprusprior Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 If you're only applying to masters programs, I don't think you will have anything to worry about.
superbean Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Sorry to hijack! Unfortunately - the scheduling didn't work out at my school and I will be unable to take real analysis before applying for any PHD programs, I can get in the first semester of advanced calculus, but that is about it. Can a subject GRE help make up for my lack of Real Analysis? Is it hopeless to apply for a PHD without it Real Analysis? Webbed_feets 1
